Would you get it?

The CPO on my 07 335i (71k mi) expires in about three weeks and I'm pondering extending coverage or not. I had the car in for a final checkup before the CPO expires (ended up w new brakes on all four corners thru maint plan ) and I was told by my SA that as of August 1st this year you can now extend the CPO coverage for another year through their Gold plan provided the car meets certain criteria, which mine does.

The plan is $1390 for the year, deductible is still $50. I'm a conservative guy in general and feel the $116/month is not a high price to pay for a little piece of mind for another year. Should I sell the car they would pro rate the remaining balance based on a few factors so I would not lose out on that.

My one "concern" is the fact I don't put a lot of miles on the car, maybe 300/month. I could obviously put the cash in a "repair fund" and possibly come out on top after the year is up, but as we know $1400 isn't much when things brake on our cars.

What say you guys?

I would pass you only drive 3600 miles a year. Thats nothing lol, I did that in a month almost.

But good to know you can extend CPO for a year, I will be doing that for sure.

Just be aware the mileage of the car cannot be more than 80000 to qualify for the extension.

$1400/yr is way too much. That's price of any of the major repairs done at indy.....if one was to happen

+1. In your case, you don't need it. Now save up that moolah for an M4 someday!

Do you own your car or are you financing? If you're financing then you can get an extended warranty through your financial company most times. I just got a quote for mine yesterday for $2,500 for 48k miles or 4 years.

I own it.

More than likely I'll do bit of a gamble and go without it and hope my repair costs over the next year won't exceed the $1400 the warranty would cost me. Fingers crossed.

Has your water pump been replaced yet? That's the only thing that I would be worried about. Mine went out at 88k (which is longer than most, it seems) and if I had gone through BMW the repair on that would have cost $1,000+.

I was able to have someone qualified do it for $600 total so sometimes having connections makes it easier to pass up on a warranty.

My 2008 328i. with 48,000 milesI has been out of warranty for a year. I replaced the starter, and belt tension. It cost me around.$1,600. Both these repairs could of waited, but I'm ocd. Took care of it now, instead of later.Like I said, I could've waited. I kept money in a repair fund. Good luck.

The wp is really the only thing I'm really worried about, but as you say, that can be done for way less than what the warranty would cost me. I have someone who could change it for me so no need to spend expensive shop rates.

The only thing I used the CPO for these last 18 months is when the power steering went out. HPFP has been changed twice, turbos still original but as I'm only at 71k both of those items are covered anyway.

I just have pray that the engine or tranny won't blow up on me.

They likely won't.

Speaking of the devil though: my e36 M3 motor just took a shit on me today
