well i will put an update and a review of the trip.

the trip was great super hot 38c most days so the cars were getting a real good testing in the heat.

the new performance bmw calliper i put on the car were amazing compared to stock, i managed 4 laps with a 5 mins drive round the car pack to pick up a new passenger.

the grip was great you could really push it in the bends even if you thought you had gone in a bit hot and the corner tightened up you could still turn in morn and it would grip with no under steer etc.

i did have an issue with the water temp creeping in heat, i replaced the thermostat yesterday and that seems to have resolved that issue.

met some great guys Deno Lars etc Marcel was kind enough to let me and Emma stop with him and Sarah in Luxembourg, as we had a little photo shoot that needed fulfilling.

after Luxembourg me and Emma headed for Brugge for the night before making our way back to Leeds.

the car was amazing, all the guys that went all came back.

now i have to write my article for total BMW and BMW car.

oh and just to prove i went

Smile

I'd like to post my 2p worth

First of all thanks very much to the forum guys for setting this up and giving me and my good friend Steve a chance to join in the great Nordschleife Experience (even got the lingo).

We journeyed over on Saturday, by chance an hour after the Dino crew set off and had a really easy trip through France, Belgium and Germany although our choice to take the shortcut through the forest road between Belgium and Germany was punishing on the suspension (apparently caused by tanks ripping up the road, although why they can't tarmac it is beyond me...). Stopped in Tienen for lunch (and again on Monday - couldn't resist the charms of this little Belgium village square).

Steve decided on getting to the Ring to have a couple of laps and thrashed his Vauxhall round without incident, giving me a flavour of what this crazy experience is all about. We also walked the perimeter, witnessed the eerie silence that descends when they close the track and took a chance to view the DMT on the Nurburgring from a distance.

My only regret is not being organised enough to meet up with any other people although the intent was there. Having said that, the attractions of our hotel (the Wilhelmshöhe in Auderath) are not be to be missed. Fantastic food, a very friendly and welcoming hostess and great, relaxing country views. Next door is a very handy petrol station and we could have used the garages for any repairs, changes etc. but fortunately didn't need to.

I did get to say "hello" to Ant and Matt on Track Day so not a complete loner!

Sunday was my first two laps and combined a mixture of fear (as the GTA3 appeared from nowhere in my mirrors), exhilaration at getting a couple of corners sort of right and complete apprehension that I would end up stacking it. We also took in the local villages and sites, 'enjoyed' getting lost trying to find alternative viewing points and admired the guts of the person taking their G reg Ford Escort round on TouristenFahrten. Until something broke.

Finally, the big day dawned and despite getting up at 6 and cramming a breakfast PDQ, we arrived late for the briefing! Not to worry, we got the gist and Dino had helpfully explained beforehand all the rules and what to do. Slightly concerned about the story of a Ring Car blowing a head gasket the day before due to the 34-38 degrees temperatures, I only completed single laps to start.

Best fun I've had in living memory. The last three laps were stitched together and although other forum members will I'm sure only remember me as that "slow git in the 335d" I put as much into it as I could and was buzzing at the end of the session.

Very, very glad I upgraded the brakes and put the Goodyears on all round (thanks Dino!). It was all over too quickly.

And in common with the rest of the posts, here's proof I was there! That Carousel is..... interesting.

It was a great trip and for me at least quite relaxing as I'm used to taking groups out there and looking after them all weekend, instead it was just me and Phil (Dirty Tool) and we met up with the e90post boys throughout the weekend for drinks, steaks, laughs and laps

My car behaved itself (mostly!) I had a few issues with tyre pressures and due to the heat found it tricky to settle on pressures that I was happy with. I did 2 laps on Saturday, 2 laps on Sunday and 10 laps on the trackday itself. Once the trackday was over and we all headed to Adenau for lunch and I got a service warning on the dash which (after Lars plugged his laptop in for a diagnostic) was the low brake pad warning!

Time Lapse video of the journey over:

The N52s together

Watching the DTM racing on the Sunday at the GP Circuit

Some awesome BMWs on display

Spotted this beauty at Brunchen

And took a few photos trackside

A few car park shots on the day of the trackday:

M3 CRT:

Turbocharged e46 M3

Where's Miss Piggy?

Ant & co

Gold!

Johnny's 420bhp Dagenham Dustbin

Some awesome shots of mine thanks to Jochen

Hot stone + beef = win

Also managed to do a personal best of 8m47s lap on the trackday in the 330i

Not as fast as in my M3 but bloody pleased with the e90 nonetheless

Fantastic photos and cars

Dino : great driving and superb time, I suppose you could do BTG of 8min30sec with no traffic etc. What happend at the 2:45 of the video ? Did you want the Porsche to pass or you didnt have enought grip to overtake the Lotus ? The P BBK behaved superbly at that moment ! Is there much difference in braking power between 335s standard brakes and P BBK ? Also the Bilstein seems to have the great balance and control. It seems like you are driving with normal tyres, not sport/performance ones ?

Once again great videos and photos, pleasure to watch Thanks a lot for sharing !

Thanks Matrez.

Yeah I think 8m30s BTG is achievable on a clear run.

At 2m45s I was going at some serious speed through fox hole and as I usually take the line to cut the kerb over on the left at the top I didn't expect the Lotus to slow down so much! When you take that line (especially over that kerb at speed) you do get pushed over to the right. I also had that white Porsche wanting to overtake me too. The PBMW BBK definitely saved me, there is no way the standard brakes would have stopped me in time.

I've not driven a 335 for a long time so can't really comment on how their brakes compare to the PBMW ones.

Bilsteins are very good indeed but my car still feels too soft - I think M3 bushes and stiffer anti roll bars will fix that.

Yes, that was a real test for the P BBK and I could feel the braking power on the video lol You have installed the P BBK on the front only due to rears beeing not much better I suppose ?

The car has 258BHP which is enought for the track but I suppose you luck the power anyway, dont you ? If you had the 335i the power would not be any matter as the car is very tunable unlike the 330i with its superb naturally aspirated straight six you cant do anything.

The suspension and brakes are everything you need on the Ring so I suppose you do not think about selling your E90

It was great to have you two stay with us, a real pleasure. And the photoshoot went perfectly, the photos look reall fantastic.

Driving from the 'Ring to Luxembourg was fun too, pushing the Corsa Diesel to its limits!
