iPhone and Audio Problems, iOS 4 related?
iPhone 3GS, 16gb
2011 335is with Nav, Smartphone and iPod options I have the problem when I switch to the iPod (external devices) on the nav screen, after placing the iPhone in the cradle. The playlist and titles will load, BUT there is no aduio and the time display stays at 0/0.. can switch to a new title but still no audio.. Requires a Hard restart of the iPhone to get it going.. and reinsertion into the cradle. I also tried to connect with the cable.. and same behavior. This just began recently and also upgraded to the iOS 4.. Anyone else having problems with iPhone as EXTERNAL DEVICE... |

Hi j330xi,
I was active on this forum for about a year back in 2006, but have been silent for a long time. I have a 2006 330i no i-drive, that has had a few dealer software updates, but none in the past few years. I have an iPhone 3Gs and the dealer-installed ipod interface (installed back in mid to late 2006). The iphone never charged (due to the firewire v. usb charging pin issue) but always played music fine. With iOS4, I report the exact same problem as you do. -Seth

Interesting. Are you guys using the MOST adapter or the 6FL? I use an iPhone 3GS with IOS4 on my 6FL and I have no problems. I have an 07. I'll check the build date.

My car is March 2010 production and thus is likely to have the lastest software, certainly BMW would have been aware of the impending release of iOS4 in 2010.. The DEALER installed iPod is the MOST while the Factory is a USB.. They operate differently in the radio software.. the MOST is seen as a CD changer. |

Passcode lock stymies BMW
Turn off passcode lock in iPhone 4 general settings before connection. Even if you unlock it with the code having the feature enabled will hang audio playbaxk.

I'm still stuck on reading. I called BMW service and they just told me that it's not supported. They did not even want to give me any alternative/options? I'm just using the cable that came with the iphone and plugged it to my usb connection in my car... I've tried doing a search on this issue it seems that I can't find anything. Any leads?

I disabled the passcode lock, rebooted my phone, and it appears to have resolved the problem. I'll keep testing it for a few more drives to ensure that this permanently fixes the issue.
I have the MOST (dealer installed) iPOD interface, 2006 with no iDrive, and 3Gs with iOS4. -Seth

Not sure if this will help but this has helped me in the pass with songs not playing.
I have noticed that with os4 if ipod app was opened on the iphone and running in the background it would not work when I plugged it in. I would disconnect it and then close the program from the multitask window. I then plugged it back in and it works fine. I am not sure if it is a coincidence but try that if its not working at times. |

OS4 definitely effects it, ever since i updated to OS4 my iPod touch (second generation) has been super slow through my audio. i dont have idrive and am using the ipod/usb adapter equipped when i ordered my car. i believe the only way to fix it is to switch it back to os3.1.3. I have both an iPod Touch 2g and a iPhone 3Gs and theyre both slower to read and operate when its plugged into my car

Did you retrofit your CCC? I have the CIC and it works 100% for me. I even have passcode lock, I was the one who set it on my company's Exchange ActiveSync policy. I'm a Sr. Sys Admin.

Similar issues here, upgraded my ipod touch to iOS4 and ever since then it takes much longer to read (not a huge deal) but it stutters horribly whenever I try to start a new track (super annoying). I have 2010 iDrive.

siegeleric,
thanks for the tip on passcode lock -- turning it off worked and I've got this problem licked. to be extra sure, I also wiped/restored my iphone (restore from itunes backup) and tested it 10-15 times over a week. I tested it that many times because it seemed intermittent at first--wanted to make sure it actually worked. on a side note I picked up a Scosche USB charging adapter from the apple online store for $20 and my iphone now charges in the car. I just left the adapter on the ipod interface cable in the car. -seth

iPhone cable
I read a post stating that iDrive won't support using just the iPhone cable from Apple until 9/2010 builds. Anyone with a prior to 9/2010 build has to use the Y-cable or the cradle.
I have the iPhone 4 and have been using it with the Y-cable without any problems. I'm running iOS 4.0.1. My local BMW parts center told me that they don't have a cradle yet for the iPhone 4. I'm hoping it comes out soon. |

Now my iPhone plays fine in the car even with the passcode lock enabled. Maybe Apple changed something in a recent iOS update.
