Here, I stole this from http://autorepair.about.com/library/...bldef-124a.htm : DYNAMOMETER Definition: A machine that's used to measure the horsepower output of an engine. A chassis dyno has large rollers upon which the drive wheels are placed. The vehicle is run up to a certain speed and put under load so the amount of power that's being delivered to the wheels can be measured (See Horsepower and Torque). A dyno can also be used to simulate actual driving conditions when troubleshooting various derivability problems. Dynos are also used to simulate driving conditions during certain types of emissions tests. |

Looks like we have at least 4 members and possibly 3 or 4 more. $60 gives you three test runs to measure your horsepower and torque by a reputable tuner. Rogue Engineering offers a Technik Engineering supercharger kit for the e46, and in time they may develop one for the E90. http://www.rogueengineering.com/Merc...gory_Code=CHAR This is their website: http://www.technikpower.com/catalog/ |

Update:
I spoke with Mike at Technik today. We're still on for Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 am. There is a huge parking lot about one street over that we can all park at, should the smaller lot at Technik get too crowded. Those who are not getting dyno'd can simply walk from that lot to the testing site. From what I understand there's a Costco, Subway, In-N-Out Burger place near that parking lot. I will need to scope this place out and provide more specifics on the parking location. Technical: At the outset, I want everyone to understand the difference between flywheel and rear wheel horsepower. When companies provide HP ratings, this is usually done by bench testing the motors out of the car with the dyno measurements at the flywheel. These numbers will be higher than what is measured at the rear wheels (in a RWD car of course). Here are the E90 bench-dyno figures we all are familiar with: 325i. . . . .215 hp @6250 rpm . . . . . . . . 185 lb-ft @2750 rpm 330i. . . . .255 hp @6600 rpm . . . . . . . . .220 lb-ft @2750 rpm Companies probably like these numbers, because it makes their cars look more powerful than that which is delivered to the wheels. The benchmark test for tuners is based on what is actually delivered to the ground (i.e., the rear wheels). These numbers will be significantly lower since there will be a 20-25% loss over the driveline (transmission, drive shaft, differential, axle half-shafts). So don't be disappointed when your 325i/330i is not putting out 215 hp/255 hp at the rear wheels respectively. Organizing: We still have slightly over one week till this event. We can bring cameras, but please be respectful of any proprietary development that is going on at the facility. Mike will try to arrange to have their Technik modified 330i M-Sport there for our viewing pleasure, but no photos of this please, since they are releasing photos of this car to the public through selected channels. We are still uncertain of who is and isn't going to this event. Unlike other meets, certain members will be watching their vehicles getting tested, so it would be difficult to plan for any elaborate lunchtime get together. If this were a park, we could simply throw another BBQ, but such is not the case. Might be best to rely on the fast food places nearby. We can perhaps send a courier over to buy hamburgers, sandwiches, etc. Please, please sign up in the meets section if you know you will be attending, so I can organize this event more definitively. I am open to suggestions. This is gonna be fun guys and gals! Last edited by ksfrogman; 06-07-2006 at 08:03 PM.. |

oh yeah...I know exactly where that is. There are definitely many fast food options near there (within couple blocks)....subway, In n Out, Burger King, Del Taco, Baja Fresh, Quiznos, Fatburger. There is also a costco, Albertsons, and Starbucks one block over (strip mall parking lot). Yeah...it might be tough to get everyone out to lunch at the same time. Might be better to take shifts or couple people to make a run or something.
Should be fun.

Or maybe you guys can go for brunch and then head over to get the dynos done? There's an In N Out near there, no? Cheesecake is in the Marina, but maybe that's too far? I'm just throwing out some ideas. How long does it take for each dyno?
