Car is at the $tealers having the wrong speed rated tyres they put-on last week changed to the correct tyres.

May get them to change the rear brake pads. How much should this cost? Stealer guestimated it could be up to £300 which seems jaw droopingly high for a few bits of rubber.

LOL...I got quoted around that price for rear brake pads....cooper cobham quoted £360 for fitting and supply.....

I know someone who can fit the pads for you....at mate's rates!...and hes on here...

Around the £200/£250 mark sounds about right, pads from dealers are about £80 odd. You will need a new rear sensor at £18 (iirc) Prbably charge 1 and half or 2 hours labour (even though it can be done in 1 hour) at £110 per hour.

You will probably get another call saying discs and front pads/discs are low too and need replacing lol

If you are mechanically minded it can be done DIY as its not too difficult but if you are unsure best get a garage to fit.

I will give you an example, I changed my rear pads earlier this year - £44 for textar pads, £14 for pagid rear sensor and took me an hour to do.

Whatever new pads fitted are supposed to cost, I would be asking/demanding a CONSIDERABLE discount as compensation for THEIR error concerning the wrong tyres THEY fitted which LUCKILY you spotted.

And if a discount and full apology is not immediately forth-coming, I'd never trust that dealer again with my car - however far it is to the next nearest.

(If you had been involved in a serious accident and your tyres checked by the police or your insurance, YOU would have been held responsible for the tyres on your vehicle - but I think you know that).

And make sure they do fit the correct brake pads !!!

Textar supplied BMW with the pads and BMW stamped their logo on it

I think textar still supply pads to BMW but i know from my research the used to in the past

Yeah i think Textar and ATE are OE suppliers. Possibly Pagid as well. But i know the pads i removed from mine where ATE's which were supplied by the dealer.

If your not comfortable doing it yourself then i would suggest a local indy garage. You can usually supply your own pads. OE ones are about £30 - £45 and Sensor is £12 from ECP. My locals charge between £45 and £60 for fitting pads and sensor. So shouldn't be looking at anymore that £150 all in.

Bah hahahahaha!! What a joke. Seriously mate, consider taking the time to learn how to do them yourself. The rear brake pads on a 335i (which i believe are the same on yours) are laughably easy compared to other marques I've worked on. Honestly, get under the car and take a look for yourself. BMW really knew what they were doing when bolting these cars together and if a trained BMW mechanic cannot complete this job in 1 hour or less then he/she needs sacking or the dealership requires an audit as it's blatant robbery to charge you any more labour and surely there's no way it could be £200+ for the parts required.

Agree completely. I can do it in less than an hour on the driveway and that includes getting all the tools out, jacking up, and putting everything away again afetrwards.

For brake pads I'd either DIY or if you're not confident take it to ANY local garage. Don't give the stealers £300, FFS.

Our cars don't even have the handbrake on the caliper. Most other cars do which can make pad changes more tricky.

It's literally wheel off, pins & clips out, pads out then sensor in, pads in, clips in, wheel back on done.

30 mins at most for a garage. In fact a decent indy would do it while the engine oil was draining and still only charge half an hour for the lot.

Not necessarily. If you change discs it is always recommended to change the pads at the same time, but not necessarily the other way round.

Agreed. Follow the DIY guide in the DIY section, which includes resetting the i drive. It really is a pleasure compared with other cars i have done. Parts are cheap as chips from carparts4less - i think i got sensor and pads for £50 all in...

ECP have a depot in Stoke if you don't do mail order - they usually give better discount than on the website too.

To be sure, measure the thickness of your disc - if it's below the recommended thickness, then swop the discs too. The minimum thickness is usually engraved or cast into the rim of the disc, but after a few thousand miles it can be hard to read.

I'll correct myself - according to the BMW TIS that I've just had a look at, the minimum thickness (MIN TH) is stamped on the brake disc body.
Minimum thickness for 330/335 i and d is 28.4mm front and 20.4mm rear.
These are for pre-LCi as my TIS only goes up to 2007, but I would imagine the LCi's to be the same.

Don't wish to preach, but ALWAYS replace the wear sensor.

It may be prudent to buy disc retaining bolts, as they can be King tight and get chewed on removal if they have to be chiseled off - they're cheap enough.
Always check the run-out on the new disc before refitting the caliper - you can use a dial gauge if you have one, I just use the wheel nut spider almost touching the disc face.
