Sending Google Maps to my 2008 BMW 328i w/ iDrive works!
i recently picked up a CPO 328i coupe equipped with iDrive. i was a little bummed i couldn't find a 2009 so that i could get the newer version of iDrive because i wanted the new interface, the benefits of faster start up due to the SSD, and mainly because i would be able to send an address from my computer to my car via BMW Assist.
i was at home last night searching for an address on google maps, and figured i'd try clicking the "send to car" option. after entering my email address that i gave BMW Assist, i forgot about it, until i was driving into work today. low and behold the two addresses i sent showed up under "My Info" in the BMW Assist menu (located in the Communications section). according to BMW's website this is only available on 2009+ 3 series (http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...MyInfoFAQ.aspx) but it sure was a nice surprise. now i can send addresses to my car, or have someone send them to me while i'm driving (just have to give them the email address i associated with my BMW Assist profile). thought i'd share in case any of you thought you didn't have this feature. i haven't modified my navigation at all, and yes i do have the older iDrive (starts up with the "i" in the middle and has 4 options for climate/communication/navigation/entertainment). |

Most probably the previous owner of your CPO asked Assist as well. |

Wow! This is interesting.
If they have the technical capacity, why don't they just enable on all 2008s? I presumed it couldn't be done because the 2008 has a CDMA modem rather than a EDGE modem (if I recall).

A GSM TCU is required, which replaced the CDMA TCU from 03/08 production-on in the USA.

bumping this old thread to see if anyone here can help before starting a new one. I have a 2006 330xi with nav and would LOVE to have the send to nav feature and would pay for the BMW Assist service if it allowed it. Any chance it would?

I know this is old thread, but yup, sure enough works on my 08 335. Build date is 6/08. Had to initialize my BMW Assist, tho. I thought once I contacted BMW assist, it was done, but apparently not. been driving around for a year that way now. I'm a dumbass, I know.

Hope this isn't dead???
Ok, I have a question for you guys that have made this work on the 08' E90's - I'm bitching about every week to my BMW dealer- I've even tried to screw up my idrive and even paid them 145 to "investigate" my problems... each time the damn thing works for them and they will not replace my TSU to the GSM version... my production date is 3/08 -
Has ANYBODY gotten ASSIST to activate this my info feature for CDMA devices pre 6/08 production????????? I NEED the send to google to work... I'm so tired of trying to fumble with this damn knob looking for addresses... If the answer is NO - has anybody tried to buy a TSU from ebay (found an 09 for 129 bucks) and plug that damn thing in and make it work?? I'm assuming there will have to be major programming to get it working and of course updating the Assist people - who probably won't update without the BMW dealer telling them its been retrofitted??? Anybody??? Thanks in advance... |

You need to get a GSM TCU (CDMA TCU does not support MyInfo), a post 03/08 firmware update of your iDrive CCC, and Assist must transfer your ESN from your CDMA TCU to the GSM TCU for this to work.
You can get the GSM TCU, forum vendor BimmerTech can do the firmware update and the coding, but the third step could be difficult as a dealer will have to request the ESN transfer to Assist for you. Quote:
