Help! Do I have waste gate rattle? vid inside
Hey I'm not sure if I have a waste gate rattle. Please listen to the vid and let me know. Those are just tips. Sorry about the gardeners haha
So if I have the rattle do I just complain to the dealer? Last edited by krnshinsa; 08-11-2010 at 07:41 PM.. |

Wait until the car is very cold. Open the hood and film from where the turbos are. It's harder to hear the wgs from the back.
BTW, mine is in for new wastegate actuator arms as I type... |

No discernable sound of WG rattle there but the positioning of your camera was not the best.

Ticking was the valves. I've got that on cold start too. You'd hear it from the front of the car if anything. Best way is to drive down a street with cars on either side, something to provide an echo. Accel down then let off and listen for a metallic rattlesnake sound. It should go away when the revs get real low or you punch in the clutch. Just solved mine with other day with a 55 setting for waste gate opening on my Procede.

the ticking sound is the valves and every N54 has it. if you're doing the cold start, the WGs are open and after some time they close. while they're supposed to be open and you hear rattle then they might not be open all the way and do cause rattling sound. from the video I couldn't tell. best way is to rev between 3 and 4k and see if you hear anything while rpm is coming down.

Wastegate rattle comes from the front of the engine...not the rear.
Nice neighborhood BTW.

I'm pretty sure I have wastegate rattle. I hear it in the engine bay when I first start my car on a cool morning. Is this something that needs immediate attention?
