You can get the maps for next to nothing direct from BMW:

http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214672

The expensive part is the FSC code. If those guys at fscmap can get you an FSC code for your VIN, would it work with the OEM map DVDs?

I had to go in to get some work done on my beemer so made a deal with the dealer. He is updating the software including maps for $69.

I asked him if I get the FSC code and he said sure but it's worthless since it's only a one time use type code. Is that true?

He also said that maps/software update is done directly from the bmw servers. Is that true? I was hoping to get a copy for myself just in case.

Fyi, mine is CIC with an internal HDD so no DVD maps.

the dvd disks that come with the nav's.if you look at the reading side it looks more like a cd r instead of a dvd?i do notice my burnt copy works dvd but for long trips & when dvd gets really hot the dvd nav stops working?think its because of it not being original.wonder using a different disk would work? Wonder what kind of disk the original disk are that come with the navigation?

Mine didn't come with nav DVDs since it's a CIC aka internal hard drive. I got the FSC code free from the dealer and now trying to figure out if DVDs from all these websites(bmwnavdbd etc) will work on the CIC iDrive. fscmap.com doesnt have North America maps even though the website mentions it.

I havent seen a thread where someone has done this correctly on a CIC since they mostly talk about CCC idrive updates. Correct me if I am wrong.

This happened to me also. My burned DVD worked great for 5 months then it startd acting up. As I was driving the map would disappear and be replaced by the OnBoard Info screen. The map views would be grayed out. This went on for a few days and I finally went back to the original disc. Since I did, no issues for 4 days so far.

Is it true that the FSC code is a one time use? If I get one, and use it on a 2012 map upgrade, can I use the same code for 2013? I don't see how the code would be one time if it's solely based on your VIN? It isn't like your car communicates back with their servers.

Thanks for that site - I just ordered a 2013 disc for $45 shipped - that's pretty cheap compared to what the NAVTEQ disc updates usually sell for.

Did you get the Nav DVD's w/ the redlight and speed cameras, plus radar locations?

Did you have to do anything special to "clear" the information or anything? I had the same issue, tried to use the old disc and nothing. So then I replaced the DVD drive, and that doesn't work. Can't eject the disc from the "new" drive now either.

All I want to do is sell this car! LOL

As I recall, with the car off, I ejected the DVD and inserted the original DVD. Then I started the car and allowed it to load. Nothing else.

Nope. Not that I know of without external hardware.

I have a cheap bluetooth to 1/8 box that I plug into my AUX in. I still have to manually connect and then set the iDrive audio to aux and then I can play music through my iDrive with my Android phone.

I have one like this.
