labour time for 335i turbos
Does anybody know what the labour time in hrs is quoted as for swapping both turbos in a 335i?
I have seen a few different numbers but it looks like the dealer says 8hrs. Just wanted to check as I know a few of you guys have had it done. Thanks Nick |

There is a thread over on the turbo section on the USA site. One lad did them himself but think his dealer said 8 hours +

A day sounds about right, but best not go to a dealer IMO, 3 times the rate of an Indy, and most likely not as skilled.
An experienced indy would be better, like Darren Wood in Machester, worth travelling for a big job like that. Phil200tdi travelled up and had them do his turbos IIRC..... Woods used to do it engine-out, but now they've mastered it with the engine in to save time. |

Darren Woods is definitely the place to go - 6 hr round trip for me!
I was charged £400 plus VAT for the labour! I expect that is 6-8 hours at their reasonable rates...

yup, highly recommended for turbo changes. I had mine done engine out as there were quite a few other bits I had done including clutch, flywheel, hpfp, water pump, thermostat, valve cover, oil filter housing gasket, vacuum tubing and all water and oil lines for the turbo. I can't remember the exact cost but I was shocked (in a good way) how much they charged for labour (I supplied all the parts).
FYI I travelled from Birmingham and hired a car for a short time and they had mine done by the end of the next day. |

My brand new oem turbos were £950
+vat I wouldn't bother with rebuilt ones unless they had upgraded internals. Had RBs been cheaper (considering the core charge) I would definitely have gone for those..

Mines booked in for new turbos vac & oil lines & thermostat next week at woods, as Doughboy said they've done a few now and have it down to a fine art.
My wastegates are that bad now they are rattling on & off throttle and completely shagged at 87k. Looking forward to getting some smooth predicable power back as its running like a POS as is. |

I'm going to get it done at Prestige in Essex. Turbos are coming from Essex Turbos as they have done loads of them and use upgraded waste gate components to fix that problem. £900+VAT. I'll get the Evolve-Supersprint downpipes installed at the same time.

I'm not sure what teh labour charge is yet but I suppose it will be 8hrs as that seems standard. I estimate around £1600 all in including VAT.

Factor in oil and coolant change!
I think the water pump needs to come out. Hence may as well renew coolant. I wish I'd asked them to renew the vacuum lines whilst there.. Done soon after myself - the rear turbo is inaccessible.
