Water bottle meth kit, costs and average running costs

Thinking of installing a meth kit once the boost leak is sorted, what am i looking at cost wise and how much does one cost to run roughly?

Do yourself a favor and trunk mount. Too many people including myself have had Meth fires due to WW meth kits. They aren't safe and the WW tank was not designed for Meth.

Going to swap the bottle out for a oil tank off of one of our cars. Carbon fibre pressure tested to 20bar. Do the fire issues occur through the pipework?

Fires occur from cracked necks, dripping meth onto the under tray

Well, that's the assumption most have concluded to, but you also have to take into consideration the vent on the top of the tank. Methanol boils at 64.7 °C, 338 K, 148 °F. It also has a flash point of 11 - 12 °C and auto ignites at 385 °C, 725 °F. If the WW cap is secure, the evaporation within the tank will cause pressure. As the meth splashes around in the tank it can blow meth out the top of the tank. If that methanol runs out onto the sub pan and runs back onto the hot exhaust, you have an instant fire. Those who have had fires like myself will tell you the fire normally flares up the side of the engine and is pulled under the valve cover. The foam is flammable and will cause a lot of smoke as it burns up the ignition wires and coil packs. Another point of failure people have noted in the past were the O-Rings on the filler neck and pumps. Regardless of what people say or think, putting 50/50 or higher methanol content in the WW tank especially in the summer is not safe.

1 gallon tank works best mounted to the battery cover. Use some 1" spacers behind the tank so you can still get to the latch. You can easily pull it in an out to fill it without spilling methanol all over the boot. Mount the pump under the boot deck and run the hoses and wires out the bottom. Seal the hole once you get everything connected with some silicone.

Many have run the ww kit and have not had issues, we diagnosed nearly 90% of the fires as the cap blowing open. I'm not trying to defend the set-up and dont recommend it, but still run it.

Meth can be had in 5 gallon containers for around $55 from a local supplier. Distilled water is around .99-1.99 per gallon. I buy the 100% pure meth and mix it down, I also dye my mix with food die to help aid in leak detection. Its cheaper to go this route.

I'm sure 90% assumed that was the case, but no one has show that to be 100% accurate. I know my cap was secure and I had a lot of meth on the sub pan after we got the car back to HPF in Portland. We put it on the rack trying to figure out what happened. My filler neck is not damaged and my seals are also in good shape. I also don't have an issue with washer fluid leaking like some people have noticed in the past. Overboost burned out his wiring and thought that it was a coil pack because his WW indicator showed low. Until he pulled the car down to fix it did he notice that some of the rubber boots on the suspension were burned also.

The point I want to make is if you run WW Meth and you haven't had a fire, it's only a matter of time. The WW tank was not designed for high % Methanol and even 50/50 in warm conditions is not safe. Do yourself a favor and buy a trunk mount tank and lines. Regardless of how much you think it won't happen to you, when it does you'll wish you would have taken the time to prevent it in the first place.

I get my Methanol from Tarr LLC out of Portland. A lot of cities have chemical companies who carry Methanol or can order it. If you go to a primary provider like a chemical company, you can buy the 5 gal Methanol cans for 30 to 40 US dollars. Last can I bought was $28.50. So it pays to shop around. Good luck.

the orings at the bottom of the tank for the low level indicator also is prone to leak...Its not just isolated to the filler cap..YOu guys still running WW tank setup are really in denial until something happens...

True, but u get a new car if the worst we're to happen. The system was designed to see a certain percentage of meth. If you do due diligence and maintained the system you won't have failures.

Not true, there have been failures in under 20,000 miles of the stock system.

Filler caps, pumps leaking, cracked filler necks, leaky release valves can happen overnight, with little to no warning.

At this point I know nearly 20 people with a fire related problem from winshield washer kits, yet people still defend them. I'm not sure where you got your statistics but I can assure you the filler neck and cap are not the only areas that cause these problems.

Ignorance is bliss until you have a fire. I almost lost my car to a WW meth fire and know a few people who weren't so lucky.

I hope you have a good insurance company.
