19" Tyre Choice

Just wondering what people are liking on their 19s, hopefully not too expensive.

Nankang Sport NS-2
Nankang Sport NS-20
Kumho KU39
Falken FK453
Toyo Proxes T1 Sport

Only suggested the above as they are offered as packages with the wheels I'm interested in (M359 replicas 9" & 10").

Any other suggestions? My budget for changing wheels is expanding rapidly, as most second hand sets are of unknown quality and normally have at least 2 bald tyres, and theres no point ruining the car with budget noisy rubber.

Probably go Falken's out of those, but ideally Goodyear Eagle F1s.

I can recommend the Eagle F1's for performance however I've found them to be a noisy tyre

Out of your list the Kumho.

But you can get Hankooks and traditional premiums for a little extra money.

My dad rated a set of Conti's really highly, admittedly they were on an A4 but still 19's, also heard P Zero's and Pilot Super Sport are pretty good

Conti's are great downside is they seem to wear a tad quicker than some other brands but they are grippy, forgiving, plus they offer you a real decent rim protector which some other brands don't.

I've seen the Kumho tyre on several cars VFM is good no idea re noise as I've only driven cars equipped with them on for short distances but noticed thst the tyre wall appears to be slightly stretched on the cars I've seen. There's a good few NanKang fans around, heard good things but actually ashamed to say I've not seen a car equipped with a tyre up close, but there's a few fans on here thst recommend them so can't be that bad I suppose.

Other safe options would for me if I was buying be GoodYears, Dunlop wise heard good/indifferent reactions to the latest Sport Maxx set up.

I'm on my second set of Kumhos. For the money, they're awesome.

Confused now! For a set of 19s to suit 9" & 10" wide wheels what widths would you be looking at for a pre LCI e90?

235/35/ZR 19's up front ideally(std BMW set up for 19's is as you may know 225/35/ZR 19's out back on 10" wheels 265/30/ZR 19's maybe even 275/30/ZR 19's out back(though on this tyre size you msy get a little but of rubbing)on some tyre brands due to side wall profile.

There's a fair few on here thstll hopefully put your mind at ease re tyre combos that work Chris at CMWherls will 100% point you in the right direction Jim

Possibly something I forgot to mention was the fact he was slightly disappointed with the life time of the Conti's so much agree with you there

Eagle F1's are where its at.

James may have found them noisey, but i've run them for years without any issues, as have many others. They're amongst the best on the market for grip, last well and are usually pretty keenly priced compared with other premium brands.

ContiSport 5, Michelin PS3/SuperSport and a few others are also very good but usually quite a bit dearer.

Hankook S1 Evo 2 are also pretty good if your looking for a more budget option. I'd be wary of running anything in your list on a powerful RWD car though.

As a easy rule of thumb when your looking at the cheaper options, if they dont get A rated wet grip, then dont touch them with a barge pole. Even the worst budget tyres are usually ok enough in the dry, but can be literally lethal in the wet. I wont buy any tyre that doesnt get an A for wet grip.

If you don't have a local fitter that you can trust/will do fitting cheap use Black Circles instead.

I'm running 4 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres which I am very happy with at the moment and which I haven't seen recommended by anyone yet!

I've been on Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric-2 with these current wheels for over a year now. I don't drive the car too hard very often but they've always been great and are still only like 50% worn after about 14 months where I have covered maybe 18k miles or more! Probably down to the chilling driving style 90% of the time, but still very impressive.

With the new wheels I will be trying the Toyo T1 Sports. I hope they are at least nearly as good as these Eagle F1s.

The Toyos have a pretty crap Wet Grip rating.

Not a patch on Eagle F1's

I ran the Falken 453's a year or so ago, got 8k out of the rear tyres and i don't even cain it that hard! Wasn't impressed at all.

The tyres I had before were the Bridgestone runflats and the rears lasted over 25k.
