Question 320D E90 Brake Fluid indicator - red

Hi, My cars E90 Brake Fluid indicator started to show yellow since few days and last night is shows red - I will get it replaced 100% today, but how safe is it to drive to my office and from there to the dealer around few miles? pls suggest someone thanks...

As far as I know, the brake fluid service indicator is time-based (every 2 years), rather than it sampling the quality of the fluid. If this is the case, I don't think you have much to worry about.

I once drove to Portugal in a 1991 Mazda MX3 (1.8 V6 version)

That had no brake fluid. We did wonder why the brakes were sh1te! Filled it back up in Spain and the brakes came back

As long as your brakes still work you should be ok

Check the fluid level before driving the car again. Red warning lights mean stop, danger. Investigate any fluid loss without delay.

If it is a warning, not a service schedule issue, simple to check there is fluid in the reservoir. Not worth risking a drive.

Except in this case, red just means it is past the due date. Yellow is close to the due date I think. At least it is according to my hand book. I don't think the fluid service light has anything to do with actual measured condition, it is a date based reminder to renew the fluid.

thank you..got it changed today at Grosvenor in Reading.

The 1/2 litre oil cost only 4.50 and the labuour 37.00 total 41 GBP..not expensive I guess..
