Looking for cheaper van insurance!
Can anyone recommend good value van insurance?
We run a Toyota Hi Ace van, with 4 named drivers over 25. Only one driver (me) has ever made a claim on their private car insurances. The van is used for local deliveries (less than 4000 miles a year ) and still we pay more than twice as much as I do for my 330d, which travels some 8000 miles a year. I feel well and truly ripped off. I tried to get a 25 year old employee on the policy, which made it about £800 in total! Despite him having a perfect driving history. We have had just one claim, many years ago, in 25 years!! Is it normal for van insurance to be so expensive? The business is in rural Cheshire, not the centre of London. |

Have you tried LV as they seem to be the best prices around or possibly NFU Mutual. I pay around £400 for my MB Vito which is pretty decent price for a near city centre postcode !

feel your pain, it's a rip off
We use CVD (commercial vehicle direct) brokers. They beat everyone hands down for our Peugeot Bipper van. Still pay £500 though, for 2 drivers over 40 on a van with 75hp worth 5k (in rural Staffordshire) Our £75k 550hp E63 only costs £350 a year with the same drivers at the same address. My bro has a T5 van and he pays over £2k with 40k miles a year. |

My van is all of 90bhp. Do claim statistics for van drivers justify the high cost of insurance? I doubt it. Just a rip off, surely. I can see a market for cheap van insurance....... Our van travels all of 80 miles A WEEK. One claim in 25 years. We should be paying £100, not £600 or £700!! |

It's not just about the statistics for the drivers themselves, the increased crime that vans are susceptible to also pushes premiums up; far too many people keep tools and other gear in their vans which makes them a prime target for opportunistic thieves.

I can see a market for an insurance company or broker to specialise in "low risk" , low mileage van owners like ourselves. |
