VIN is faulty error in NCS-Expert

Long story short, inpa and WinKFP are working (did the alpina flash), but when I try to use ncs to reset the battery, I get a vin is faulty error. When I try to change it, it brings up my actual VIN, but with an extra 4 on the end. Any ideas?

I did a search and most people have said to upgrade the software, but I have to the most updated that I can find.

Thanks,
Bryan

If you have Standard tools 2.12 you are fine.

Check if you have E89 folder in C:\NCSEXPERT\DATEN\

And make sure that you copied all files from sp-daten\daten\*.* to here C:\NCSEXPERT\DATEN\ and here C:\NCSEXPERT\DATEN\E89

Just recopy this and check if this helps

It was 2.12 that I installed.

I know I copied the sp-daten\daten files to ncsexpert\daten\ but I am not sure if I copied them to ncsexpert\daten\E89. I'll have to double check. Just to verify what you are saying, you mean to copy the same \daten files to those two different folders or daten to daten and e89 to e89?

Thanks

this is how you update new daten files...

so copy the files and replace

Target ---------------------------Source .(SP-Daten-Exx directory )

\NCSEXPER\SGDAT\ -------- .ipo files
\NCSEXPER\DATEN\ -------- coding data (daten) for models
\EDIABAS\Ecu\ -------------- .prg files......

Fairly certain I did that. It was in one of the DIY setup guides I went through, but I will do again to be absolutely certain! Thanks :-)

Moved all of these files back over again. I have sp-daten 50.2 if that makes a difference. Still have the same issue, I attached a pic.

I am following the steps in the register battery DIY thread. I open NCS-Expert, Select a profile, Press F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA), Press F3 (CS/FA f. EC) > Select E89 > Click OK > Select CAS, and this is when it occurs.

The steps to that procedure are here in post 35.

Any other ideas?

Well I looked all throughout the NCSEXPERT and EDIABAS folders and could not find any .man files. So I did a windows search and found one of the zip files I downloaded, so I put that in the NCSEXPERT\WORK folder where it was in the zip. You think that might be it? I will try it in a bit as I am on kid watching duty atm.

What does that file do?

Thanks for all the help.

ON YOUR NCS EXPERT FOLDER YOU SHOULD SEE A FILE:

FSW_PSW (MAN)
FSW_PSW (TRC)

INSIDE THE (MAN) ONE DELETE ALL THE VALUES INSIDE THEN SAVE AS.MAN SO FSW_PSW.MAN MAKE SURE SAVE AS ALL FILES OTHERWISE IT WOULD SAVE ONLY AS PLAIN TEXT.

I had the .TRC file already, the .man file I copied had a ton of German in it, but I cleared it out per your instructions, I'll let you know when I try it.

Thanks.

Yes I did. Very early on I couldn't get anything to work and finally figured out that I had to turn that off.

You are the man Joe, that worked and the steps in NCS worked just as the other post explained, made it through all of them without a hitch. Now when I run the job to register the battery in Ediabas, I get an invalid ECU error. I will upload the image later when I get home from work, I can't do it from my work computer.

make sure you update your daten files correctly as well

you can do the following copy-paste procedure:

Target ---------------------------Source .(SP-Daten-Exx directory )

\NCSEXPER\SGDAT\ -------- .ipo files
\NCSEXPER\DATEN\ -------- coding data (daten) for models
\EDIABAS\Ecu\ -------------- .prg files......

I've seen the exact same error on a friend's car I was coding. Without knowing much about the JB4 I don't know if he went to map 0 or if there is a separate "off", but that resolved the problem.

I guess I'm assuming putting it to map 0 is "turning it off"...
