Great news! Bad publicity seems to be the only thing that actually seems to make big companies get off their arses.

Who's betting, when interviewed, the BMW representative comes out with the usual "all our cars meet Thatcham guidelines and we have the best security in the world. This only affects a small amount of customers and the vast vast majority are totally happy blah blah blah"

I think they would have made more of a deal of it of it was BMW.

When they did the cracked wheel episode the emphasis was always on the "you don't expect this from a premium car maker".

I do feel this will be someone else.

Hope it isn't about BMW, adverse media publicity will only serve to increase insurance premiums and lower the value of the cars as the general public turn away temporarily from buying BMW. Most owners and potential owners know nothing of this issue and thats the way it needs to be.

If that program is about family car, then forget our BMWs.
Its probably one of Fords or Vauxhalls.

If that's your car in your sig, it pretty much looks like a family car to me?

I'm now beginning to doubt that it will be BMW, because as Mega mentioned, bmw isn't exactly a 'popular family car'......

It is a family car but not as 'popular' as ford focus and some of Vauxhalls.

I asked Gavin if BMW had a comment on this. He said

In a word 'no'. Have dealt with various media over months on topic. Again, all manufacturers working on this. Police now catching gangs

Heh, BMWs might not be a popular family car, but they're bloody popular! I see about 15 or more every day on the commute. Mostly LCI 318/320d saloons and tourings. The odd 325 and a few E92s. All lease cars ofc, but still, they're bloody popular alright!

Bad news if its about BMW, we all would have been better had this been resolved in a quieter fashion, just wait til its splashed through the papers too, insurers see the £££s because people are now aware of the issue and therefore "understand" why they have to increase premiums, sales of BMWs will fall away thus reducing prices to meet the reduced demand.

Since the 3-series outsells the Ford Mondeo that's an odd conclusion.

Yes, you are correct. I have no idea why people still buy focus

Maybe...

because it's cheaper than a BMW...

and handles just as well (especially compared to a BMW on RFTs )...

and is FWD...

and it doesn't encourage abuse from other drivers...

to name but a few!
