Noise after oil change

Had my cars oil changed last weekend and since then I have noticed on a cold start up at idle a kind of rattle sounds like a very rough vibration more than a rattle that slightly increases when the revs rise to about 1200 rpm when warm it sounds normal.checked the engine cover seems ok
Any Ideas ?

Who did the change?
What oil grade was used?

I think mistryn's right. Wrong grade oil leading to hydraulic tappets rattling on start-up.

Or it could be the cam chain rattling before the adjuster take up slack. Could be due to new oil bieng slightly thinner and cleaner.

Does the noise go away gradually or suddenly?

New oil should be thicker.

Old oil becomes thinner as it breaks down and loses it sheer strength.

So with new oil (of the correct grade) the oil pressure should be higher as its thicker and things should rattle less!

Do the genuine oil filters have non return valves in them?

If it's tappets, you should be able to listen while watching the crank pulley rotate. As the cams run at half crank speed you can normally tune into the sound being out of step.

If it's thicker, or the wrong grade, it takes more time to prime the hydraulic lifters.

National tyres did the oil using Castrol edge 5w 30,
I don't think it's mechanical engine runs sweet. it's like something rubbing, think it may only be there more from cold due to increase of idle speed..

It's a diesel so I wouldn't rule out dmf! The oil change wouldn't make any difference but maybe you were listening more carefully after it had been done

I bet it's the plastic cowl under the HVAC filter.

Check the bolts are there!

It does sound like a trim rattle,but defiantly sounds less when warm,guessing that's just due to smoother running and less vibration,any info on the location of this item you say

If you try to move the plastic cowl under the Cabin filter it should not move. Its bolted down.

A mechanic may have forgotten to put the bolts back. Take a look.
