Okay I don't know where else to turn! I have a 2006 325xi sedan... My ses light came on about two months ago I took the car to autozone where I got a p0128 code thermostat below regulating temperature. I then took it to BMW where they said I needed to replace my thermostat I did so so 746 dollars later I have a new thermostat well my ses light came back on soon after same code p0128 this time BMW says I need a water pump so 1043 dollars later my water pump is replaced 2 days after light is back on same code!!!! What could it be????

Not sure yet... but I would be on the phone to the BMW service manager, BMW warranties there service and you have just spent $1789.00 on their poor advice, be nice but explain the facts.

Did the car show any signs of overheating and does your heater get good and hot?

No signs of overheating not sure how to tell though since there's not a temp gauge in this model but I assume the message center would let me know. And yes my heat works just fine.

I would think that a failing waterpump would throw additional codes.

It could just be your coolant level sensor or coolant temperature sensor.

I would def call the service manager- that is a lot of cash to drop and still have a code.

I'm starting to think maybe the engine coolant tempature sensor is bad... I have noticed that the fan runs really fast sometimes and occasionally stays on after the cars off. But the car wasn't overheating so maybe that's what would cause the below temp reading I'm getting and therefore possibly replaced all this other stuff for no reason. As this is my first BMW I wasn't sure if the fan thing I had noticed was normal or not...

Coolant level was fine no no other codes at autozone just the ones I've been told by BMW that my water pump faulted 33 times and fault in thermostat when that was done.

How to check you coolent temp #7.00 and much more..., if you have a failed sensor it will way out of range or have "--".

Okay after I finally figured that out the thermostat and water pump seem to be working opens around 89 degrees c and cools it down to about 70 so opens at 190 f. So idk what to think other than that sensor that controls the fan

Sorry, stepped away, this wasn't making sense.

Did a little reading, the thermostat is electrically heated. An electrically heated, DME controlled Thermostat is externally mounted above the cooling pump. The ECM (Engine Control Module) activates the thermostat to maintain engine coolant temp within a narrow range. If the electronics fail, the mechanical function of the thermostat acts as a failsafe to control the Fan and Electric cooling pump. You should get a check engine symbol in a full failure.

Once your car has warmed up please check and see if your RES heat works, this will tell us if your DME and ECM is functioning controlling and opening the thermostat to allow the coolant pump to circulate the heated coolant through the engine and heat exchange to allow RES heat, your fan should never run any longer the 10 min's after you turn off your car.

I would like to thank u for being so helpful! And going out of your way. I'm still stuck though but do believe that we can determine that it is not the water pump or the thermostat.
