Valve Cover recommendations E90 (2008)

VC has a crack at the PCV fitment, my fault for over tightening PCV which was causing a rogue 2D2E fault code. Now, the crack very noticeable...and hissing.

Looking for recommendations, maybe other than plastic? But I'm not wanting to break the bank. $3-400 is my ceiling.

Wondering if this brand is good:

Thanks, need to order ASAP.

Elring is the OEM for a lot of BMW gaskets. You won't go wrong with it.

Yea, I saw they are a German based company....I think I will give them a shot, the lifetime warranty sounds nice, but if I crack another I need to just sell the car! lol

If cracking happens, it tends to happen at high mileage (90-100k). You'd be unlucky to have it crack before then. You're likely to replace this thing once in the lifetime of your car unless you're going to keep it for 200k+.

You can buy the OE one from FCP and get lifetime warranty. In my case I used Uro brand from Rock Auto. Worked fine so far.

I also used some RTV to help seal the valvetronic motor gasket ("football" gasket).

I haven't heard good things about ECS shipping recently, if you already ordered let us know when it gets there!

I placed an order with them 9 days ago and it still hasn’t shipped. Glad it’s not just me. But still disappointing, never any issues with ECS in the past.

If $400 is the budget, get an OEM from FCP. The best for sure with a lifetime warranty though it will probably never need it. Aluminum ones are nice but you could buy 3 or 4 OEMs for the price. The job is just enough of a PITA that I wouldnt get an aftermarket one since the reviews seem hit or miss.

I tried ECS a long time ago. I seemed like they took the order, then order the parts from somebody else, then ship them. It took a good while and that was the last time I used ECS.

Also check Rock Auto. They usually have the best prices. Others like the FCP lifetime policy, but there was a thread on how "new" the inventory really was.

Yea, it was probably just time anyway...

I will say this, anyone digging to solve a 2D2E fault code, look here. A 'slight' crack in the valve cover will flag this and cause input lag with your throttle. I looked ALL OVER not suspecting it could have been the VC and a slight crack! Argh!

Its been a couple of months but I havent had ACTUAL shipping issues with ECS but I do suspect they are doing a lot of drop shipping because when you order something that is "in stock" the initial shipping estimates are dire but if you email them and go, "Why is this expected to take a month, it says its in stock" they say its an error and correct it, my stuff has always shown up in a reasonable time after that.

Getbmwparts is the online parts counter for Mile One BMW in Silver Spring Md. I got my cover from them a few years back. Price has gone up a bit, but at $486 you get the OEM cover with new bolts and gasket.

If you're local you can pick up at the counter. Otherwise shipping will raise the price somewhat.

At that price it's not worth it to order it from that website. FCP has the Genuine cover for 432$.
