Performing Imports N55 Flash Software Dyno Sheet

We finally got the dyno sheet for the N55 software:
339.1 DIN HP = 343.9 SAE HP (US)
505.2 NM torque = 372.7 foot pounds
The software has to be loaded into the DME Directly, NO OBD2 port flash available, and won't be for a long time to come - if ever.

Here is also the base dyno results:
298.4 DIN HP = 302.5 SAE HP (US)
377.1 NM Torque = 278.2 foot pounds
Just software no other modifications.

is this an independent dyno.
it says www.pp-performance.de
is that the tuning company?

will post the base run in the morning. It is on this sheet, but it is hard to read.
PP-Performance is the company who mods the software.
I have 2 cars with the software running and they are pretty impressive. First one here willing to do it will get a heafty discount on the software for being the first one. Will come with the obligation to post a sincere and honest evaluation of the car with the software. Call me for details 770-641-6202 8 - 5 eastern time.

If I am reading this right, your baseline dyno is at 310 HP and 336 TQ (SAE), in which case it's a high-reading dyno and I am not impressed. Or else it's at 239 HP and 260 TQ (SAE - TQ not shown), in which case it's a slightly low reading dyno and I'm very impressed. Let us know..

I would not recommend that. The N55 engine has a cast iron crank, they are prone to break with too much boost. That is why you are not seeing any tuners running 18 psi of boost, the crank can't hack it.

"Prone to" would imply there are repeated examples of this happening. I haven't found anything on the forums in this regard. Not saying that we shouldn't be careful with pouring on the boost, but unless you have direct knowledge of failing N55 cranks due to high boost we can't say the N55 is crank "prone to" anything. At best it can be theorized that the crank may be vulnerable at high boost levels assuming it is indeed cast iron (which I also don't recall ever having been definitively proven). In any event, assuming none of the internals are forged I'd be concerned about the rods before the crank.

does that mean that if you want this tune, youd have to drop your car off in Atlanta?

Yeah I would have to wonder if our 'lil turbo can even push anything that high (over 18psi) anyhow. A piggy + flash would probably be a bad combo in any case, I don't think they would 'stack' well.

And are you (Performing Imports) implying that the crank in the N55 is substantially weaker than the one in the N54? I am pretty sure the N54 can handle more than that w/o problem. I think the community would be very keen on knowing if you have any evidence of such failures. Like vwrefugee said, I think this is pretty much unheard of in this community. Especially given that I don't think anyone is running that kind of boost on the N55 yet.

Edit: I would consider your intro offer and provide a good review of the tune, but I am very happy with my PROcede. Glad to know that flash tunes are coming to market for the N55 for sure though. And FWIW I spoke to you guys on the phone before and you were very helpful. Seem like some good folks to work with.

A question on the software: in another thread, you wrote "The N55 software is developed with the new BMW software and is only available as a bench load. No OBD2 interface is posible at this time. The software works with the N55 DME, no matter what chassis the engine is in. It is NOT a shadow program, it is factory BMW based software, shows up on the ISIS and GT1 as BMW software. It does NOT tamper with any emission components."

So - is this software invisible to the dealer when they search for evidence of tuner codes? That seems to be the implication, but just want to be sure.

Would you offer the same reduced pricing to tune a 335d?

I have a friend who works at Alpina in Germany and they blew up plenty N55 engine all with crank failure. Cast iron cranks are glass hard and do not flex. The crank in the N54 is forged steel and has plenty of flex so it can deal with higher boost levels.

They will read the software as the stock software.
Sorry already have a 335d coming in next week as well as a F10 535 for the reduced price we offered.

Thats great! But we have to stand behind our software and guarantee nothing will come appart, so we cannot push the envelope like that, and crank failure happens without warning, it is sudden and violent. I do not think that anything over 14 psi is safe in the long run.

No, all we need is the DME. Remove it and send it to us.

Thanks for the kind words! The crank in the N54 and N55 are made from different materials, the N54 crank is made from forged steel and the crank in the N55 is sand cast iron. Steel flexes cast iron does not. That is the difference.

is it the same, but just different material?

just curious, since I am in a turbo upgrade process.
