If you have a BT cable Nd software.
Then that should be enough to register the battery.

Also not sure if the BT cable will work with BMWlogger software.

changed my dead battery to this exact same one from walmart. works great, I personally did not register it and do not think there's any problem with that.

No offense bro... but it doesn't matter if you don't THINK there's a problem with not registering it. There is. The car is engineered and designed to do what it does. So when you decide that you don't need to do what the car manufacturers tell you to do, you're gonna have a bad time. Lol. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow either. But at some point much sooner than you would have had you just done was required and got it coded in. Your car is going to continue to charge your new battery at the rate it was charging your older, weaker battery. So it's simple math actually, if your car keeps overcharging your new battery at the old rate it's going to dramatically shorten the life of your new battery. I hope this makes sense...

Regarding the MaxxStart H8 battery from Walmart. There are two vents holes on each side of the battery. (you guys seem to be noticing that.) My point, when you buy the battery from walmart, attached to one of the cap covers is a small grey plug. Use that to plug the negative terminal vent hole. Cheers.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but at the ~400$ BMW charges for a battery you can go through a lot of WalMart batteries.

Again, I'm not arguing with you, but I can see why people would skip regging a new battery if the car works OK.

You don't have to go to BMW to get the battery registered though. There are lots of very capable coders that can do it for you for a nominal fee. I had my battery registered and got my car coded for other special features all for 100 bucks. All a forum member would need to do is go into their regional forums and ask for the coders in their area.
But I get what you're saying. I got my Walmart battery coded to increase it's life span. Even at $100 a pop, if you don't register it and only last 2 years... then that's 3 $100 batteries in the span of 6 years. An OEM battery is about $300 bucks and will last that same amount of time. There's no point in saving the money on the battery if you're not gonna do what is required to make it last. Just my .02

Registering is VERY easy. All you need is a $10 cable from ebay and download the free software. You dont need to be a coder.

Just put this battery in my 2007 e90 335i. Fit perfectly. $123 with a $12 core charge from Walmart.

It's been a month and I have had no issues.

I registered the battery and also changed the coding to an 80aH.

I've had the MAXX H8 installed for about 5 months now with no issues. It was coded by an Indy shop, but they just reset it and didn't adjust for the specs of the different battery. However, I doubt that matters as much as not telling the car that there is a new battery at all.

I have it (from Walmart too) and deeply regret it. It is too weak for our winters and I had to call CAA twice last winter. Might be ok for Vancouver though.
