The track looked boring on TV despite the flying Red Bull last year, but it was actually fun to drive in (experience from F1 2010).

This track is another possible dual DRS zone (I'd even say three is do-able too). Definitely Turn 11-12, and possible Turn 16-17 or Start/Finish Straight.

The link provided by "gary88" during Canadian GP 2011 for BBC streaming should be good if anyone wants to watch it live (North American viewers are unable this Sunday).

This year has been really good despite Vettel winning 5 of the 7 races, and P2 on both races he didn't win.

I think that test already happened (Spanish GP).

I predict Valencia will be interesting but not as action-packed as Canada or Monaco were.

E90, are you sure about the tires being provided?

I read a report recently from Pirelli that mentioned the Medium (white), and soft (Yellow) will be the 2 choices brought.

I would much prefer the White and Red for the race, but just thought I'd seek some clarity.

You're right, seemed like they've changed the "step grade" between prime and options for recent races. Probably because they've seen enough performance difference the two compounds.

The unique demands of the Valencia street circuit mean that Pirelli will introduce its brand new medium tyre in Spain this weekend, which was tested during free practice in Canada two weeks ago. The PZero White medium tyre is not quite as durable as the hard tyre seen during the first five grands prix of the season, but it is quicker while still representing a significant step in range over the PZero Yellow soft tyre, which is the option tyre in Valencia.

That caught me off guard because that was not the decision a month ago.

The medium compound will make its debut in Valencia alongside the supersoft, before reverting to the hard and soft tyres at Silverstone.

The FIA has written to the teams informing them that they will not be allowed to change engine map settings between qualifying and the race from this weekend's European Grand Prix.

With the ban on off-throttle diffuser blowing coming in to force from the British Grand Prix, the latest clampdown is a further attempt to prevent teams from wasting fuel by maximising performance in qualifying that can't be sustained in the race. As a result, the FIA has written to all of the teams officially informing them that there can be no changes to the engine mapping made between qualifying and the race, with the ruling being implemented with immediate effect.

Engine maps are used like a power boost in qualifying, with teams maximising the pressures from the engine that go through the blown diffuser and generate downforce. This in turn increases the temperatures that the floor of the car is subject to, and needs to be reduced in race trim in order to prevent reliability issues and save fuel.

While the potential impact on pace-setters Red Bull will be closely scrutinised in Valencia, it is expected that the ruling will just reduce the performance of the whole grid in qualifying. Theoretically teams who can run closer to the qualifying map in the race could benefit slightly on Saturday, but there is likely to be little or no effect on race pace.

Just posted the DRS zone for this weekend.

The FIA is to stick with a single detection area for the two DRS zones at this weekend's European Grand Prix, following a successful debut for the concept in Canada last weekend.

With the DRS having been used in two areas in Montreal, the FIA has confirmed that it plans to have a similar double concept again in Spain - although it will not be used along the start-finish straight.

The first zone in Valencia will run from 285 metres after Turn 10, with the second zone starting 35 metres after Turn 14. The single detection area will be 130 metres before Turn 8.

The use of a single detection zone means that a driver who is behind a rival in the detection zone can use his DRS both to overtake in the first activation zone and then to pull out a gap at the second.

Although that policy caused some controversy in Canada, Renault's Nick Heidfeld was one of several drivers who backed the experiment by the FIA.

"You could argue that it is probably too much to have two DRS zones, but it is a good idea to at least try it once and then afterwards we will know," he told AUTOSPORT.

"We might not go back to it, we might. I think one would have been enough – but why not try?"

I think its better to have two DRS detection lines for each activation zones. Probably the second detection line shall be before Turn 13 for DRS activation 2. It more fair for the car who got overtaken to have a chance to fight back on Turn 17. Otherwise, car 1 who overtaken its opponent will just cruise away more than one second after turn 17 and got away.

Sorry about that, it was the last minute change from Pirelli that the info I've got was still for Medium-SuperSoft.

Pirelli will be supplying the medium and soft compounds at the European Grand Prix, having originally announced it would be the supersoft that was given to the teams.

With the hard and soft compounds being the preferred choice at the first five races of the season, the soft and supersoft had been paired together in Monaco and Canada. Despite also being a street circuit, Valencia sees the debut of the medium compound due to its more high-speed nature, and the supersoft was due to be the option tyre. However, with the weather forecast predicting high temperatures, Pirelli has switched to the more durable soft rubber.

Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery said that there would still be a substantial performance difference between the two types of tyre, with the medium compound having been made more durable in recent weeks.

"Tyre wear on this circuit is likely to be quite high because of the track layout, the nature of the surface, and also the weather conditions, which should be very warm," Hembery said. "For all these reasons, we've selected the medium and soft tyres, which should provide the teams with a good level of resistance, plenty of different opportunities for strategy and about a second per lap difference between the compounds.

"The PZero White tyres have been adjusted slightly from our original specification to make them a bit more durable, along the lines of the tweak we made to the PZero Silver hard tyre in Spain, and this was the compound that the teams tested during Friday's free practice in Canada, giving us plenty of useful data."
