roof tile has hit my cars roof :(

Anyone else had this happen?

Will it be my home or car insurance that pays out?

Reading links off google they seem to point at car insurance

Will post some pics in the morning, its 2am and very gusty.

Thing bounced of my car roof with such force that its knocked the interior light cluster out of its fitting.

My car insurance is 2-3hundred quid excess. i have protected ncb

will try to get some sleep

Bad luck mate, could happen to anyone.....
I believe your buildings insurance will not cover this, it will have to be your motor policy unfortunately.

If it had hit your neighbour's car, this would be covered by the 3rd party liability cover on your buildings policy, but since it's your own car this does not apply as its not a 3rd party involved.

That's a shame.

Happened to someone else on here a few weeks ago.

Luckily the damage he feared was not there once light came up. I hope you are as lucky.

Gutted mate, hope it's not as bad as you fear when it becomes light!

Yes mate, in 2007 a slate landed on the roof & bonnet of my 130i. I claimed on my insurance as I needed a new bonnet as the damage was that bad. If yours isn't too bad then I suggest you get some quotes in yourself before putting in a claim as IT WILL make a difference to your future premiums even though it was not your fault, mine stays on recored for five years, comes off this February.

Good luck and I hope the damage isn't too bad.

If you can't claim on your home insurance, I recommend you get a quote for a non-insurance job off a bodyshop. Non-insurance jobs are cheaper than insurance jobs and despite having a protected NCB, your premium will still go up. The NCB is a discount off the base premium. The base premium changes when you have a claim.

Don't think he'll be that lucky, mine was parked in my drive and it was a roof tile from our house but that didn't make an ounce of difference to my insurer (who was More Than at the time)

Well,

Its not pretty......

Where the first strike occured:

Then it bounced to here:

And what has pissed me off is its hit somewhere else, driving the cost up as those 1st pics are on the same panel:

The 1st strike hit with such force that it knocked out the light cluster!

Shot of the offending tile and where it came from:

Going to visit a bodyshop on my lunch to see if I can get it repaired for £350 or slightly above (thats my insurance excess).......doubt it

That has to be insurance.

And it could be a write off if the car isn't quite new. Replacing a roof is spendy

That's really nasty I feel for you. It looks as if the last row of tile nearest your gable end all need re bedding. Otherwise it could happen again.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure my roofer will say I need a new roof or something along those lines.

2012, not starting out quite the way one would like.

Thing is, I've got winter tyres on. Thought my car was invincible this time of year

Sorry to see that.

It certainly looks like a new roof.

What quotes did you get over lunch?

I'd say upward of £1500 for a BMW job.

Quote is £1000+, so its deffo an insurance job.

I've got protected no claims so I can only claim again once in 3 years.

Hello premium increase

I asked how much it would be for a respray of the bonnet for my own purposes, he said about another £300. I nearly went down the "let me come back in 5 mins to reassess my car" but I couldn't bring myself to take a hammer to my bonnet.......

I'd be surprised if it was anywhere near £1000. A bumper plus the costs of fitting and you are £1500.

The entire roof needs done, the trim and the door. It's going to be a lot.

Hopefully it will be done quickly to a high standard.
