Help! £1500 bill for a car bought 4 months ago?
Hi All,
Just had a total shitball of a phonecall. The clanking noise from my 335D is a nice set of busted differential bearings - kudos, the warranty is picking up the £1400 repair bill. However, the two worn front tyres, the cracked rear alloy, the busted seat handover mechanism and the fucked seatbase are going to cost £1500. I bought the car four months ago from Coopers BMW in Croydon, who, tbh, were cocks when I bought the car, and now I know I'm going to have to go back to them. Any advice guys? |

Has the car an AUC warrnaty, if it has you can go to any dealer. The worn tyres won't be covered but the rest sounds like it should.

Is it a third party warranty?
Edit- oops, as you were. You could argue everything will wear out in time, but seat base and seatbelt handover, should be covered IMO Last edited by creepy coupe; 05-18-2011 at 08:18 AM.. |

The AUC warranty will not cover:
Tyres & other consumables aren't covered. Others you might have a chance with unless they are classing them as wear & tear or pre-existing faults! - the wheel they will probably try and blame on you driving over a pothole or something Def worth getting a 2nd opinion

It is the AUC warranty that came with the car when I bought it from a main dealer 4 months ago.
So far I've had: Turbo Hose Split Solenoid Valve Seize Boost sensor fault Broken Seat Base Broken Seatbelt handover Cracked Alloy Unevenly worn tyres New Differential bearings and I've been without my car, in total, for a fortnight. Oh, and they want to charge me £80 for changing two brake lights?! Is it really THAT difficult? |

£10 in parts and half an hours labour = £80.
So no, it isn't. But their charges are ridiculous

I think you are stuffed with the tyres, but if they are legal you can probably source elsewhere far cheaper.
Cracked alloys are the subject of a separate 'sticky' thread on the Technical page but in summary, you may be ok so long as then can proove the problem is due to a fault not accidental damage. The seat base and seatbelt handover should be covered unless the car has already done a lot of miles fo 'wear and tear'. If they claim it was pre existing you need to argue the toss with Coopers. I guess the uneven tyre wear also means you should be looking at a 4 wheel laser alignment too. |

Ouch - that's a bit of a PITA!
I had a few little issues sorted without questions (AUC but had 4 months BMW warranty left) - blown puddle LED, stuck seatbelt (was actually a fairly major job) a rattle and some other little bits and bobs. I can see the tyres being out of warranty payments but the rest sound legitimate as claims. I have a horrible feeling your car might be one of those serial PITA machines. Can you check the Puma database to see it's full history? |

OP
Sorry to hear of your woe. Send Cooper Croydon my best wishes.... I bought a 320d from them a few years back and they are a shower of useless c*nts. They tried to not do a load of stuff they had agreed to, and also lied about servicing the car. Not a good experience. |

May be worth trying another dealer if it's an AUC warranty.

coopers croydon ... thats where it all went wrong.
Bunch of total f8cking idiots having dealt with them in the past. Write to BMW HQ and list the issues - send a copy to the dealer principle as well.

id be kicking up a fuss big time warranty or not.
They are selling shit cars , so threaten to go to papers, friends, forums, bmw if they dont sort it. Its not a private sale, its from a dealer. if all else fails, get the work done at an indy. i wouldnt be giving them a penny of my hard earned. It would be interesting go get annekas thoughts on what their policy is on such a situation. I think its a proper shite dealership. |

They have always been appalling - since there days at L&C on brighton road.
They just dont seem to give a f8ck - never had good service there, and nor has anyone i know whose been there. They should DEF be flagged up on a 'Dealers to avoid' list.

and it just gets better!!!!
Driving home and now the small turbo is knackered somewhere, i've literally got 10 seconds of lag before the larger turbo cuts in and warp factor 5 is engaged. So, back to the dealer AGAIN.... so thats 4 warranty trips in 4 months. What a fucking bargain this car is turning out to be. |
