Custom exhaust coming together but need opinons.
Ive ordered all the parts Im going to provide my exhaust guy -
Cyba's Titanium tips, and Magnaflow #12866 mufflers. (the same they use on their catback system) What we are going to do is - Weld flanges on the old system at the "cut off point" Weld flanges on the old removed part Weld flanges on the new installed part. This way, I can swap back to stock at any time (its a lease) and even remove them if I have/want to for a long trip (if i want it quiet) or for any warranty work that might require it to be stock (not sure they'd beat me up on an exhaust though) Anyway What Im trying to decide, is - do I leave the stock resonator in, and make it an axleback (easier to swap, quicker, cheaper, etc) Or do I have him make the swap before the stock resonator and remove it? My plan has been so far and remains to be, keep the resonator. It cant be that much of a restriction, when you figure in I will NOT be removing cats or adding catless downpipes, as they would be too much work to swap back for warranty work... So the question is - Keep the resonator, and seperate, make flange joints at the axle, or remove the resonator and make the flange joints before it? I'd appreciate input from those who have removed their resonator and done something similar - sounds clips would help lots. So far cost is- Magnaflow 12866 $80x2 = $160 Cyba Tips $130 Labor and Materials Estimate (axleback) $120 Total - $410 installed. Last edited by Borsig; 08-08-2009 at 02:50 PM.. |

i actually have a setup similar to this. i basically flanged it where it meets the downpipe. i did 2.25" piping all the way through, deleting the 2nd cat and the resonator and into Magnaflow mufflers. then i put a 4" tip at the end of it. sounds very nice and deep growl. not annoying loud at all.
the best part is the weight you remove from the old exhaust system is a drastic change in weight. when i took my car for a spin you can feel the lightness in the rear. stock mufflers itself weights 40+ lbs each. good luck with everything! |

Its why I picked them - 6" would be too deep - 4" too ricey. and the 6" long cans would probably be too loud. |

different. he used Magnaflow #12866 mufflers whereas you used #14336.
Your exhaust (mr.5) sounded great and I was about to go this route, but now I'm curious as to what the 12866 mufflers sound like. post videos/sound clips!
