About to buy 335i with 98k miles. Opinions? (Pics and Carfax)
Stats:
2007 335i Coupe (Space Grey Metallic) 98k miles 2 previous owners Price: Talked it down to $14,500 Owner is a "dealer" that sells cars on the side. Things I observed: - Rides smooth. - Auto tranny shifts smooth. - No oil leaks (As far as I could notice) - Engine sounds good (No rattles) - HPFP has been replaced twice. The 2nd one is the newest model that fixed the issue. - Looks like its been in a rear accident. Bumper is dinged and trunk is slightly misaligned if you run your finger through the gaps. - Rear driver wheel bearing making noise, but owner will replace that. - Besides the black rims, the car has not been lowered or modified as far as I can tell. OEM exhaust and muffler. Pics: View post on imgur.com Carfax: http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...209&source=CFX |

I'd avoid it since it's been in an accident.

Looks like a solid car fax and a great opportunity for an mtech bumper! It appears the car was serviced and inspected many times after the accident so I'm sure if there was damage to any non-cosmetic important components, they would have been fixed.

I don't know much about 335's with this kind of mileage. But it is a BMW, besides the N54's shitty fuel system (injectors, HPFP, etc.) it's a solid car & if you take care of it it should take care of you. The more gadgets it has though, (heated seats, iDrive, etc) the more I would stay away from it.

Couple things you should know for sure.
First of all if you can crawl under the car and feel the bumper and mounting assembly. If you can get a flashlight up there shine the light on the mounting tube area. They will deform there. If not deforned you are good to go and actually replacing the bumper is not hard to do at all. I did mine when I installed a hidden hitch. Shocks and stuts are shot, brakes are most likely close to the end of their life and if the intake valves have not been walnut blasted to clean them you will need to do that as well. Those should be considered normal consumables (except for the intake valves) and I would not shy away from the car if you like it. Miles don't mean much on a BMW if the car has been maintained. However if the BMW service schedule was followed you need to add a change of all fluids to your list if you want long life from the 335. Good luck and post what you do... |

Looks stock, But to do it right consider those maintenance items listed. Your looking at good 500$ investment diy'in to change every fluid and get all the wear items replaced. Probably more cause of walnut thing not sure how much that costs.
But anyways any time I buy car I replace all fluids right off bat and common wear items like plugs.

I have a 2004 Lexus LS that is running perfect at 114k since we got it new. Great motor and trans. No issues ever with the mechanical bits. It feels shitty to drive though because the touch screen display is going out and will cost $3000 to replace. It controls the heating/AC, radio, etc. Everything it controls we no longer have access to. Buy the car if you are confident in both the motor/drive-train and all of the BMW gadgets in it otherwise it could be a terrible purchase. |

Keep some money aside for servicing or minor maintenance. I think it will be a good buy if the car is clean otherwise. |

I am not so sure it is lowered, but the tires look really thick. What are the sizes of the tires on the car? In particular the 2nd number. The tire sizes should be 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 back.

The good: car has S840A, S677A, S2XAA, S823A
The bad: car is missing S704A, S494A, production date is 10/2006 they changed a bunch of stuff in 11/2006 and 03/2007 that made the car better (and caused some recalls). they also changed a bunch of stuff many more times in production, but 03/07 was the big one for electrical stuff the car has the 1st gen footwell module and original production transmission control unit, both can be upgraded. it also has 1st gen junction box and fuse box, not sure about the process on upgrading those. It looks like the 2nd owner had it in every few thousand miles, probably issues with the HPFP |

i would never buy a used bmw with 100k miles already on it.
(exception being a dedicated project track car that will have the entire engine rebuilt anyway)

Good choice, also I think it's worth to mention (seeing my friends who've had 335i's) its usually a hit or miss with them meaning sometimes they're okey reliability wise, other times its a huge pain in the ass. Also stay away from previously modded cars (that one has black wheels)
