Rear Bumper/Diffuser Removal

I looked in the DYI section, but I dent see anything about the rear bumper. Is there anyway to remove the lower part of the rear stock E90 bumper without removing the whole bumper? Or does the whole rear bumper need to be removed? Either way, can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks.

Ok, so I searched a little more and found that the rear bumper is a pain to remove. So I guess what I would like to know is if I can remove the lower part of the bumper by itself. I'm just trying to take it off so I can paint my exhaust properly without worrying about overspray. Anyoen know?
