Stopped reading after noticing you drove an automatic...As if driving an auto is suppose to be fun or impressive...

Did the dealer have you test a car with busted turbos? A guy I work with recently bought a 335i (was also not impressed). Took it back to the dealer he bought it from and turns out he bought it with both turbos broken - dealer fixed his car and now he loves it.
Also, had a chance to drive a 328xi as a loaner when my car was inspected this week, and I have to say the difference between that and my 335i is night and day! Maybe their was something wrong with the one you test drove... |

I think some people stress the 335i's power too much - 300 hp (or 315 true hp) and 300 ft. lbs of torque is not amazing. My E38 has a published 282 hp, but is actually 320 hp and 327 ft. lbs of torque. It's VERY peppy and fast, but that amount of power isn't ALL THAT. Drive my Shelby GT500 and then tell me how your 335i feels.

making 282 hp vs 300 hp... at what RPM? mind you. 335i makes peak HP at 5800 RPM and peak torque at 1200 RPM. plus your e38 weighed a ton. No chance. GT500's speed is only a tune away. Car and driver tested a 2010 gt500 at 12.9....funny i did a 12.9 with shitty All seasons (tune-intake). OP drives a 328...he could just be a hero for all other 328 owners and give them moral support. Its okay 335i's arent that fast. |

Op, doesn't even have a sport package 328i, and he's comparing it to a sport 335i, and saying the handling is better on his 328? Obviously, somethings wrong with the car, or possibly with the op. Quote:

I think your butt-dyno is broken...go drive a 6-speed and really GET ON IT! I drove a manual 328 when looking looking for 335's and I laughed out loud during the test drive waiting for the power. I think it handled really well obviously, but to say a sport package 335 isn't right on par is ridiculous.
I think the 335 could use some more power, and that's why I got an AP for $800. My subaru still would have ripped my 335 a new one, but the 335 is so much better in so many ways. The acceleration between the 328 and 335 is night and day no matter how you slice it. and you can't throw $800 at a 328 and expect to get nearly the same hp/$.

Given it was a test drive...I'm sure you didn't have the opportunity to drop it down the 4th or even 3rd and really gun it.
I immediately miss my car the second I get a 328 as a loaner. There's a night and day difference with the way those cars take on the road |

was the 335i or 335xi "feels much more agile and responsive." - Should be the same unless you drove awd or had a fat dead guy in the trunk(extremely fat) Car felt heavier and somehow disconnected comparing to mine - WTF |

Maybe its because I am older, but to me the 328i e90 is perfect. Handles well, plenty of power, great sounding engine, plenty of torque, incredibly comfortable. Yea, I guess turbos have even more power and torque, but who needs it? But I suppose I too once liked rollercoasters. That was in my younger days.

Yea, I'm old in relative terms. But I am fortunate that I can easilyafford any car I want. I just see the 328i as far better value than the more powerful bmw offerings.
By the way, its funny how age catches up to you. You'll be where I am in the blink of an eye. |

Nah man you're nuts, 335i with JB4 will decimate GTRs and 911 turbos
