+1 on keeping OEMs for winters. Narrow tires help with traction in snow

162s look good on E90s but those CSLs look bad ass! tough to clean though esp with BMWs world renowned brake dust

Well with regards to the rims, living in the same area I can add this. If you are on A/S you can get by. It may be difficult and you want to drive during the storms but the roads are cleared and salted well enough to survive their freeze point well enough, just be careful.

I run Volks March-November and keep the OEM's with Blizzak's at the Hainesville Firestone. Stores 'em for like $25 or something like that.

Depending on budget if you want to mount aftermarkets with winters as you asked if the aftermarket would survive the winter, I wouldn't run anything expensive during the winter. If you want to buy a cheap set of rims and use those during the winter, that's one thing.

Personally I hate all OEM rims other than 313's. So I couldn't wait to get my Volks and trash the crap out of my 169's in the ice and snow.

yea i figure since the winters havent been too bad around here i shouldnt have a problem driving but ive heard horror stories of nice aftermarkets being ruined from just a simple slide on ice...any recommendations on where i could get nice aftermarkets in the area? preferably a sort of CSL style? i love the spokes layout

@kitkat: if the car is a daily driver all year round, then it's a no brainer to get dedicated winter tires, even the cheapest ones would perform better than the best all-seasons. at 205/55/16 stock size, these are not expensive at all.

consider this a smart mod. once you've tuned your engine and gave it more speed, you need good rubbers to stop the car in cold weather
