It's funny how two people can have totally different points of view on the same scenario. It seems to me RFT's are more susceptible to this type of damage than standard tires. Of course it is impossible to say for sure. What I can say is that this is a tire failure and ideally this car should not have been driven after the incident. This tire was not designed to be driven once the sidewall is compromised RFT's are really designed to be driven when there is a traditional puncture. I don't see any safety advantage here at all, I think the OP was lucky to not have another incident after the initial damage.

I just had twice in two months.
rear tires about 400$ front is about 300$.
If you have tire insurance you only pay for labor and it is about 50$.
Luckly I had mine tire insurance and it paid off in two incidents.

yeah.. thinkin finding one on ebay... some of them listed had about 90% tread left.

do i need to replace both front tires or just one is fine if i can get a used one with approximately same tread life ?
