Rear View Mirror Fallen Off - HELP!!

I am hoping someone can tell me i'm just being stupid (again) here but this morning I was trying to adjust my rear view mirror when it fell off in my hand. It is left dangling on a wire now, which is more annoying that it coming clean off :-)

It doesn't seem to be glued on but I can't for the life of me reattach it, there seem to be a metal attachment to the windscreen and a hexagonal part on the mirror itself that would suggest it just clips in - is there a magical method!? I read somewhere else to hold it at a 45 degree angle and twist, now that's all fine and well, but 45 degrees from which side and twist which way?!

I've just spent half an hour battling with it and had to come away through fear of pushing my windscreen through!

If metal part still bonded to screen hold it close to the screen at approx 45 degrees engage in metal part and rotate to normal position keeping pressure as you turn.
