CPO Convertible Question (leaky roof)
Just got my e93. Its an 2009 still under CPO. Today we had a normal rain maybe a 4/10. I have water coming in on the drivers side and its kinda sitting in the headliner. Ive taken it through the car was twice and not noticed any issues but today I wasnt so lucky. A will there be any major issues with the headliner getting wet (and hopefully drying quickly) and more importantly will my CPO cover this!? I have seen several posts with e93 and it seems like an issue but perhaps not as noted as the hpfp issues. Any advice?
Maybe open and close,..... perhaps it just didnt seal up all the way? |

Have them replace the front windshield seal.
I would also have them adjust and inspect the roof pistons as well- no way in hell a roof should be leaking on the hardtop. For routine maintenance, pick up something called Krytox by DuPont to keep the parts lubricated- a very small amount goes along way. Also be sure to get some Gummi Pflege (literally "rubber care" in German) to keep all the rubber parts nice and supple. I would also be sure not to go through car washes that have pressure washers- that is a big no-no for our convertibles! I have one car wash near me that has a very gentle pressure washer wand that they used to spray the outside before you actually go in- those seem fine. However, I once went to a car wash that had a pressure washer wand so goddamned strong the damn thing sprayed me right in the face- from the passenger side through the rubber seal between the windows!! I can start a whole other thread and discussion on the questionable nature of pressure washers and automobiles, but I digress. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but CPO only covers mechanical failures for our hardtop convertibles

FML. Just got the car. Well if mechanically it's not functioning properly I would want them to cover it. Kinda crazy if they don't. 64k car 50k miles and the roofs fckn leaky. ;-(

Very surprised if they did cover it. You should lube the seals and the linkage then see what the results also the E93 has drains in the roof itself with small rubber check valves installed. You might see about getting some long pipe cleaners or what they clean some musical instruments with and gently clean the drains out. They are the opening in the top that looks like a small O just be careful to not push out the check valves.
I suggest you look this thread over as well to help you know where and how to care for your top. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=609222 BMW used real rubber and the seals shrink. I have owned BMW convertibles starting with the E30 and every one of them eventually leaked requiring rubber seal replacement. The front seal across the windscreen is typically the most expensive seal out there... |

I had an e46 for a year last session it was an 02. No problems. I'm planning on driving this more so I don't want problems. Good advice I'll check drains. But the rain was so slight. I can imagine a downpour. I wonder if I just had it clicked open just a hair. But I think I would have noticed.

Think cleaning and lubricating will do the trick? Do I need both types or can I just get the Shin Itsu? Not sure how that helps seal but for a few bucks ill try anything before I have to spend 120 just to have it looked at! People also talking abou Krytox and Gummi.....anything I can get locally at a auto parts store to try and treat front seal (top left A pillar corner leaking).
