Unhappy Steering Wheel Vibrations... Wont stop.

Hello all,

I used to have all of my rims bent on my E90. I had a vibrating steering wheel and bad road noise.

So to fix the issue, I replaced ALL the tires and put BRAND new rims on the car. The shop road force balanced the new tires and rims. Surely this would have fixed it! However, The shaking STILL persists . It's very bad at around 45MPH. Any idea what on earth this could be? I am getting so pissed at the amount of cash I have dropped into this issue.

Bushings? Bearings?

Any help is gladly appreciated!

Zach

Have rotors checked for true, suspension link arms, bushing, bearings. Sorry that you spent so much money without results.

When I bought my E92, I had the same situation. I also replaced the wheels with new one and the tire shop did balance them. The vibration persisted, so I went to another shop and did balance the wheels a second time. That fixed the problem. Apparently, the tire shop did not balance the wheel well. I understand that if the vibration only occurs at certaing speed, it should be the wheels out of balance. Hope this helps.

I have been to two shops for balancing to verify. One balanced and one did the road force balance. Vibrating after both

make sure there isn't water inside the tires. rare but would cause this exact problem. also lift the car and spin the front wheels and look to see if there are wobbling. start the car with dtc off and put it in drive to spin the rear tires. again check for any abnormal movement. if you can do this, do it, or have the shop do it. also does the vibration "surge" as in fade in and out?

Tires were freshly mounted, I would hope water is not inside. Spun the wheels this afternoon, no difference. The vibration/shuttering is continuous.

My 325i has a wobble in steering wheel too at 45 mph. I will have it looked over this week. I know i have a bad bushing but may or may not be my culprit.

I have the same thing. Although I would say it is not a vibration like a tire out of balance. It is not that pronounced. I had my wheels force balanced 3 times and and tires replaced but it still persists. You don't feel it until 50 mph or so and above 65 you cannot feel it. I think it is worse when the car is cold right out of the garage. Please keep us posted if anyone figures this out.

UPDATE:

It turns out that the new rims I put on were not exactly the right size on the hub. it was millimeters off. So I went from bent rim shaking to misfit rim shaking. I purchased some used style 189 rims, all good now!

wheel shaking

hi, so i bought a BMW 325i last year in november. Wheel was shaking pretty bad at 40mph and above. Went to several different places. Apparently the suspensions are completely new, tires were balanced (3x). Not sure what else i need to be doing?

FYI - no i don't know anything about cars, this is my first bmw, so any feedback would be much apppreciated.

blown suspension items could be the culprit of the wheels are round, and the balancing was done on a roadforce, and done correctly, which honestly isn't as common as you'd think.

On my e36 and my e30 cars, control arm bushings caused major shimmy.
On the e90 the setup is different bus worn bushings that locate the wheels are a general culprit on most cars.

Like I said a few posts ago, it was the rims! All clear now, smooth as butter.
