E90 Door Panel Removal Tools

Hi,

Does anyone know where I cab get a set of tools to remove my E90 door panels cleanly as I want to do some speakers upgrade.

I really don't wanna scratch my car using unconventional tools/ methods.

Cheers,

I wrapped electrical tape around some older (& therefore worn) screwdrivers when I did mine, worked well & didn't mark anything.

I've got a proper metal multi-tool for removing door cards, but the trusty screwdriver is better!!

Yeah, they are plastic. I thought they were going to be rubbish but chanced it as they're cheap. Used them this weekend and have to say they worked great. Didn't break any clips or mark anything. Surprisingly strong plastic, if you need to exert more force than what you can with these I would suggest you are doing it wrong!

Doubt you'd find them amongst a professional fitters tool collection but excellent for the money.

I wrapped my screwdriver with a rag and did all 4 doors plus the missus car.

The only other ones I've seen appear to be sold with the Jehnert systems. Don't know if you can get them separately?

1 or 2 of the bolts that poke out of the back of the door panels will bolt to the speaker lug, the other 2 will fit just outside the edge of a 5.25" speaker, enough for you to pop the nut back on to secure the speaker against the door panel, although I had to cut a small notch out of the metal speaker edge to get it o fit properly (all will become clear when you see them).

Nahh, you just trim the plastic part of the speaker holder in the back of the door card so it doesn't foul the speaker cone when it moves. I'm using 5.25" Pioneers in my front doors and they sound great straight off an external amp.

Can't you just make an MDF ring, screw that to the existing mount and then screw the speakers to the MDF?

Yep, but the depth available is already on the limit, especially with a 5.25" speaker, less so with a 4". Using a spacer runs the risk of catching the speaker on the back when you fit the door panel. Even if the door panel fits back on there's the chance that the window will hit it on the way down.

5.25" sounds more ideal to be honest.... i guess that goes the same for the 2 speakers at the back...

which pioneer speaker you using so i can use it as a start... cheers

TBH I really can't remember. It would be something like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pioneer-TS-E13...item3ca853c69f, which will take the power from a 35W(rms) stereo amp. Or you could buy a 4 channel amp and power the subs too. That's what I've done and it's great for a budget system.
