If you throw in new brake pads and a new sensor on one axle only you can't reset the brake warning when the sensor on the other axle is already worn down to it's second stage.

If you want to reset the warning light take the old sensor (the one you have replaced) cut off the sensor head and twist the two cables together (or solder if you want to use it more often)

Pull the half worn sensor from its plug and push the dummy sensor in instead (no need to remove it from the caliper).

Now you can reset the warning light as described.

After resetting remove the dummy and reconnect the half worn sensor to its place.

The board computer will calculate the remaining miles after some driving around.

Could someone comment on the spark plug reset option.

I have never heard of resetting spark plugs. Could this have an effect on fuel consumption calculation?

Did my plugs not long ago, and haven't reset anything.

No difference. It's a life counter. If you have error codes due to poor firing plugs then you would use a OBD code clearer.

I've actually checked the reset menu, and the option for spark plug that is in the video (if that symbol even represents a spark plug) is not even available on my car.

It's no longer available in the cars that have software updated.
My M3 doesn't have it either. My 325i did though.

Dealer service light reset

Can anyone tell me how to reset the Dealer service light? I do all my own maintenance and have been able to reset all lights except this one. Do i need an OBD II tool?

Thanks for the help,
G

It's also in the same menu as the video describes, when you scroll through them there will be one in red. I forgot if its reset twice or change date.

You made it easy

Thanks for showing the controls during the video rather than just talking through them!

Is that part about putting your keyfob in just for cars that do not have comfort access? My '09 335i has comfort access and I never have to put the keyfob into the dash for anything.

Just wondering. Thanks.

PS - I'm going to try the oil change reset this weekend.

I've got an 09 328i Wagon/E91. The only way I could get into reset mode was to hold both the trip reset button and the B/C button at the same time. Brake pedal did not work for me.
- Also, referencing brake sensors. I just changed out my front pads and rotors. I could not reset the brake service interval and I also got the red car-on-lift service warning and both front and rear brake service interval mileage read '_ _ _ _'
- i looked closer and did have wear on the brake sensor. These newer sensors are not good/bad like the E46's. I've read that they increase resistance as they wear until a full open. Trying to reset the service interval with an old sensor will only work if there is no rubbing on the sensor.
- NOW, the trick. Just take a metal garbage bag tie and jump the two sensor plug wires. This now shows zero resistance and the computer will allow a service reset! Plug the old sensor back in (as long as it's not a full open) and no more brake warnings

Which means you can DIY the service for your car.

Here are the steps:

Place a key in the ignition switch and press the start button. Wait until all check lights and beeping goes out. Put your foot on the brake pedal and hold odometer reset until yellow triangle comes up. As soon as that happens; release it (odometer reset button) and use scroll on left side of steering wheel to find an icon that you want to reset service light for. Press the top button (BC button) on left control handle and reset “light” will come on. Press again and hold it for few seconds. That should do it. You can keep scrolling until you reset all that needs to be done. Once you are done take a keyfob out and you are ready to go!

I hope this guide helps some of you guys when you do your own oil changes and stuff like that
Every time the yellow light comes up I release it I've done it 10 times and it just doesn't do anything else. I will say this but service do light is on and my brake fluid light is on for every time the yellow light comes up I release it I've done it 10 times and it just doesn't do anything else. I will say this but service do light is on and my brake fluid light is on for maintenance. Also I have a seatbelt airbag passenger side default going on. Is it the service due and or the seatbelt default that will not allow me to reset the light

When the "Reset" prompt comes up, be sure to hold down the ">BC" button for 5-7 seconds as the little clock times out the request and the parameter is reset.

If not mentioned, the doors need to be closed while performing the reset.

When I asked my local BMW dealership if they'd help me reset the oil interval on my out-of-warranty 335, the guy told me I would need an appointment and it would be $45. (*$^&%$!

Does this work for cars with i-drive?

I have changed my own oil at less than the normal BMW service intervals but can't seem to reset the service due indicator.

If you release the odometer too early it screws up the sequence.

Just to clarify if anyone is having any trouble

How many mile?

anyone have any idea if you reset a menu by mistake twice is it possible to roll back the dates of the next service so it isn't like 5 years later?

Did this ever get figured out? I was trying to reset my service required light (Car is on a lift in my cluster) on an 09 E92 and it would not change.
