Are my wheels suppose to fit??

So I just bought 4 new Matte Black Rota Grid Drift wheels for my car. They are 18x9.5 ET35. The backs fit just fine, but the fronts (the same size all around) don't fit just right. The front right wheel is fine, no rubbing. The front left wheel looks to be grinding against the shock when I make left turns. Anyone had this before?

You basically have no strut clearance in the front and will need spacers. Your combination of offset and width makes it so that the barrel is too close to your shock, causing the sounds you are hearing. Get 5mm spacers for the front and you should be fine. Camber can affect it too, the more camber you have the closer the wheel comes to the strut. You shouldn't have more than like 1 degree of camber anyway, so go with the spacers.

No I did not. I didn't think I needed one and the guys that installed them at the tire place didn't think I needed one either.

Okay. I also have talked with another guy that said when I put on my ST Coilovers that they are a little thinner than the stock shocks so I might clear, but I am also lowering the front an inch. I will try to find the 5mm spacers. I just don't want the wheel sticking out a lot. They already stick out about quarter of an inch or so. I think if they stick out too far it'll look bad. Thank you for the help and advice.

That's weird i had 18x9.5 et35 and 235/40/18 tyres at front and i had no problems at all. It's about 2mm gap, between wheel and shocks.

Does the wheel/tyre spin without hitting anything, when the tyre is jacked up?
Have you checked the back of the wheel is there any marks of it hitting somewhere?

Also i find it weird that it only happens when you are turning. I think it should hit the shocks all the time, when driving, if it would hit the struts.

Hmm, I'd have your car checked out to make sure nothing is bent. It wouldn't make sense why one side would clear while the other doesn't.

You don't need an alignment when swapping wheels, but if you haven't gotten one in a while, perhaps now is a good time. Don't want to burn through those tires faster than you should!

As stated above with that offset your inner lip is essentially hitting the strut. No an alignment wont fix this issue, the distance from the rim lip to the strut is fixed and non adjustable via an alignment, camber or toe wont change the clearance. You'll need a 3 or 5mm spacer to pull the inner lip away from the strut.

How do you explain that he only is hitting the struts on left and not from right side? And only when turning? Also 18x9.5 et35 will fit without spacers. Since i have had that setup on my car and i know few others too. It needs spacers if you have coilovers.

I added a 5mm spacer on the fronts and haven't had issues. The right side was rubbing, but just enough to take the paint of the shock, the left side on the other hand had rubbed a little more. I was told that with coil overs, I should have MORE room since the shock is thinner. I don't know if that is true because I haven't got them in the mail and installed yet. So far, right now all is good.

Your wheels must have thicker back side, than mine. It depends on the coilovers some might be thinner, but then there is those adjustment collars that may cause problems.
