Opinions wanted: loaded 335i $36k vs lean 335is $39k?
Hi,
Dilemma; I have found 2 cars I really like. Both are out of the area, so no test drives. I have driven a handful of 335i E90 and E92's in the past. One is a loaded 2011 335i, 6MT coupe, 27k miles, CPO, optional 19's, and I can get it for $36,500 shipped. Not a bad deal; it has nearly 4 years of warranty left. The other is a 2011 335is, 16k miles, also 6MT and CPO, but very few options, for $39,700 shipped. Obviously, having NAV/CA/HK/Parking sensors on the former will make it easier to re-sell. The latter being an IS is going to also help re-sale, although I think from a performance standpoint, the new M235i will be more of a go-to car when the track package is introduced. It is already faster and more nimble. I can't see people buying 335is and paying for those in 2 years what they would pay for a used M235i track package equipped car. So, buy the 335i and get a PPK, call it good, or the 335is because it is a more rare car? Or, skip on both for something else? What else can be had in this performance range and level of refinement for the $ I am looking at spending? I found a local 2010 E92 335i 6MT loaded, 28k miles as well, nice car, but it is black on black. I have had trouble keeping black looking good; I live in a dirty, dusty area. Roads are clean from June-September only. It isn't a steal, he is asking around low retail for it, but a very nice car. Price ceiling is right around $38-39k. |

Where were you seeing them for $34-35? I would give them a call. Did an AT search, everything I saw that cheap was in an accident. |

I wouldn't buy a used car without personally inspecting it, test drive it a couple of times, and doing pre-purchase inspection. If you feel comfortable buying a car like that then go ahead. I would suggest to keep looking for something local to you. Best of luck with your search.

Can't tell you about pricing but if it were the two I'd take the fully loaded one. I have a 335i with ppk 2 and pretty much is an IS. I think the only difference is a beefier flywheel and a higher boost setting? (I think). If you're anything like me, the ppk or IS is not gonna matter as you'll be wanting more in terms of performance and mods. lol. But when buying my car I didn't think I cared about certain options (only wanted Nav) but now it's got me wishing I had them....ie heated seats after the past winter Chicago had.

2 different engines; 2 different power potentials. The 2011 is the most desirable in terms of tuning for the n55, but we still aren't close to FBO n54 numbers. I say got for the 335is as it's the better car all around.

You can do better on the 335is. I just picked up a CPO 2011 335is, 6MT with 45K miles, Nav, Premium, Cold weather, iPod, 19" 313's, Harmon Kardon, and no accidents for well less than $39K.
If you're looking at that year the miles matter less anyway as long as it's CPO, the original warranty is hitting the 4 year mark either way. |

I'm not sure if you're as much of a gadget person as I am, but I went with the one with the combination of lowest miles and most options. I looooove all the stuff you can get!
My drive is stupidly comfortable every day, because that's what this car is going to be doing 90% of the time. It's fun to go fast around corners, but if it's your DD, a mix of comfort and sportiness will make the car more relaxing. |

Sorry, the 335i is an M-sport. That is the only type of 335i I was looking at: the steering wheel is alone worth it!

Both are manual so that takes some of the edge off the 335is. IMO the Double Clutch, superior cooling and exhaust on the 335is are the best reasons to buy one.

MSports also have the badges. I'll gladly take the badges if that means more attractive bumpers, sideskirts, steering wheel, headliner and a nicer color option.

The mileage on the IS makes it very attractive. Plus you get some neat included upgrades. Can't go wrong IMO.

Get the M Sport, with the money saved, get a jb4 (or PPK2) and a Performance Exhaust. You will have as much or more power and look good doing it.
Granted, the iS has the n54, which has more modding potential, if that is your thing. It also looks better, that rear diffuser is sex. |
