Came across this the other day on youtube..not sure if it helps.
Might be worth giving cartronics a buzz I am a noob when it comes to ICE installation and stuffs..but thought someone else might find this video useful. I'd have gone down this route myself if not for the fact i like to keep things OEM and mine has the Logic 7 Professional head unit I have put a Dension 500 Gateway in mine instead. Or what about this http://www.navtvman.co.uk/retrofits/bmw/index.html Last edited by bounty78; 09-23-2011 at 06:58 AM.. |

Been looking at this range http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25.../overview.html The p4300 has everything I want, but is still in the region of £385 Plus there's no info about how the phone info is displayed. Have looked at some youtube clips but no-one seems to show the phone function |

Looking at current Double DIN Multimedia head units I've narrowed it down to the following:-
Clarion VX401E Pioneer AVH-P4300 JVC KW-AVX840 JVC KW-AV740 I'm actually quite liking the JVC KW-AV740 to be honest due to it having physical buttons and knobs as well as touch screen, although in reality I don't know how much this really matters as I'm wanting to control the radio through the steering wheel anyway. Does anyone have any experience of these units and can tell me about pros and cons? |

I don't really know about the JVC units, I tend to like the Pioneer units as you can set the illumination to match the BMW amber perfectly, and that is important for me.

Apparently clarion have a theft policy in that if your unti's stolen they will replace it. Pretty good I think. |

gIzzE (or anyone with good knowledge in this area), the JVC units only have a 3-band equaliser plus seperate Sub equaliser, which at first I thought was pretty poor. However, the equaliser is parametric, what exaclty does this mean. Looking at this video (which is pretty poor at best) in the first minute or so it appears as though although the equaliser is only 3-band, you can alter 'all' frequencies, ie 4 in the low frequency, 4 in the mid, and 4 in the high. If that is indeed the case I would expect you can tweak the sound to suit your needs? Also what is the 'Q' setting for each frequency?

3 bands should be fine.
In as basic terms as I can think of and not quite right but easy to understand... Parametric Q allows you to change the curve of the point you are changing, so a Q of 1 changes the EQ curve in a 1 octave, a Q of 3 will change the curve over 3 octaves. If you had a q of 0, or .0001, and you were changing 125hz just 125hz would change, if you change 125hz with a Q of 1.25 you are changing 125hz with it also changing up to 150hz and down to 100hz. This gives you an idea.... Blue is a Q of say 1.5 Black is a Q of say 2.5 Red is a q of 3.5 Does that sort of make sense?? You will change more frequency range with a higher Q factor. |

With regards to you saying 3-bands is enough, currently as you know I have the individual stereo which allows you to adjust a whole range of frequencies, but with a 3-band I assume you can just globally adjust the low, mid and high end? Does the parametric part allow you more flexibility, ie you can adjust different parts of the low frequency rather than just globally affecting it? What condition is that pioneer system in? (ie used/new, scuffs, scratches etc) Does it come with all original cables, remote, manual etc etc? |

You just listen to it while you adjust.
Not sure if that one allows you to move up and down the frequency range or not, you will have to read the manual. The F920 is advertised on gumtree in Norwich, where I am. But I think he has sold it now. He had two he was going to use for a boot build, but now doing something else he said. Think he said it was new. |

The Pioneer, JVC and Kenwood all seem to be much of a muchness so I want to go and have a play to see which one I get on with best. The search continues. |
