Oil change for 07' E92 335i question?
I have a question and I know it's been talked about a million times. I'm about to do my own oil change and was wondering should I use Mobil 1 5w-30 or 0w-40? I don't track my car but it is a daily driver.

If you are going to use mobile use the 0w-40, but for that price might as well play it safe and buy the dealership stuff. Its made by castrol and its good stuff for the most part. I think mobile1 is over rated. I been a bigger fan of Castrol for all my cars over the years.

You need oil with BMW LL01 approval. In the real world that means:
The BMW oil from the dealer. Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (NOT the 5W-30) Mobil 1 0W-40 (NOT the 5W-30) Do not buy any oil outside of the dealership that does not say "BMW LL01" in small letters on the back. This means none the 5W-30 oils commonly sold in the United States. Not Amsoil. Not Royal Purple. Of course it is your car, but I am assuming that you want to keep your warranty intact. And speaking of which, keep the receipts. |

You can also buy Valvoline HST 5w-40 which is also LL01 approved. http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/SynPower.pdf http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...l_1_0W-40.aspx Last edited by F32Fleet; 09-21-2010 at 11:30 AM.. |
