My brakes look like they are at at least 60% but the car asks to replace brakes... is it possible it's used a lot more on the inside ? car has 85 000 km if that matters.

Bimmershop doesn't exist anymore. But yes, a few of us have him work on our cars.

Excellent, of course! That is also why he is quite busy, so you may not get an appointment as quickly as you want. He is usually booked for 2-3 weeks at a time.

There are front and rear sensors that will trigger an error if you are down to nubs. The onboard computer will also signal a service message after X thousands of Kms. I think most of us on the E90 and more recent platform have had to change out pads and disks at ~40K Kms. Most of he E90 and more recent cars wore their pads pretty evenly inside outside top and bottom. Assuming you have the tools, pulling off the wheel and doing a visual inspection should be a snap.

Thank you for the info, that was the plan for the week-end. I will however still not get rid of the (very) annoying replace brakes warning if they are fine which sucks.

There are two systems that can trigger the "brake wear" warning.

As jgalaxy stated, there are electronic wear indicators that wear with the pads and cause a warning. To reset the warning from those, you need to replace the sensor altogether. I simply removed those sensors from the pads and tie-wrapped them to the suspension. They are not cheap and only increase the cost of changing pads.

There is also an algorithm that estimates brake wear based on your driving. Since your brakes don't seem actually worn, it is likely the latter that is causing your warning. The algorithm tends to over estimate brake wear, especially when driving at the track.

The good news is that it is easy to reset. Turn on the ignition (driver door needs to be closed). Wait for the service warning to disappear in the cluster. As soon as it does, press and hold the odometer reset button. You will see a triangle warning, but keep on pressing until you see the service warning again (immediately release the button, otherwise you will overshoot and access another hidden menu). You now have accessed the service menu. Using the buttons on the high beam/turn signal stalk you can navigate the menus as you would for the "on-board computer". To reset the brake wear warning, select the proper menu item (there is one front brake and one rear brake menu item). Press the "BC" button at the end of the stalk, it will show "> Reset". Press again and hold, you will see a little clock. Keep on holding until it is reset. Et voilà .

I helped my friend with the installation of the FMIC. It was a 7 hours job as it was our first time. The mounting is not that bad but it was the bumper trimming who took 3-4 hours.

Yep it was 7 inch

The 5 inch should take you 4 hours max.

I've the VRSF 5 inches which come with new couplers and t-clamps. I'm not able to do it alone. I did remove my under panel, OEM intercooler, OEM couplers (and used a dremel to remove the OEM one-use clamps), but I'm not able to tighten the clamps on new couplers (the clamp from the coupler to the turbo piping (hot side) and the clamp from the coupler to the lower chargepipe (cold side) ) once the new intercooler is on. I don't have room for a ratchet and I don't understand how to move stuffs around in order to get access... Someone who has previously done can help me for sure. An extra set of hands is also helpful - these FMIC are quite heavy.

Thank you. I checked the pads and they are all fine. I reset the system using your trick and everything is fine now.
