Do I need to load the suspension for front and rear replacement.
We just swapped out my stock sport shocks/struts last night. My BIL is a mechanic and is taking the fronts to the shop today to compress the springs. We finished the readers last night, but he didn't load the suspension before tightening the bolts.......should we go back and do that tonight? The wheels are still off the car and its on jack stands so we have easy access.
Also, does it need to be done on the front as well? I watched the bavauto vid, and Otto didn't load it for the rears, but the bilstein instructions say it should be done. I know I've read people on here recommending to load it before tightening too. Advice please. Thanks in advance |

I like my wheels at normal ride height before final torque. Bentley doesn't mention it! My philosophy: Torque should be done in the position which the part is intended to be. |

The only things that need to be torqued while loaded are the suspension arms so the bushings don't get wound up. The struts/shocks do not need to be, they are fixed in place.

This is the right answer. Tighten the arm bolts under load. One way to do this, by the way, is to jack up the arm so that it is at ride height. It is easier to get to the bolts this way, than to actually put the tires on and lower the car.

How much do you have to jack it up to tho?
as without wheels and its hard to see how much suspension bits compress underload |

I place the jack under the rotor and jack it until the car starts to lift off the jack stands.
