I just installed a used, but in great condition M sport steering wheel on my 2005 e90 330. For sure worth the upgrade and thanks to bavarian19's DIY instructions this made a fun easy home project. The only tricky things I found was getting the second airbag clip to release and the new M wheel airbag frame was bent and therefore the airbag sat with too much play. Quick fix was swapping my original frame on my old non sport wheel and that did the trick. Airbag sat perfect!

However I am having the same issue of the new wheel slightly sitting off center when driving. I saw several people had the same issue, but for the life of me could not find any fixes. I noted the notch that guided the wheel on one way so that seems ruled out.

Anyone find a fix for this? Could it be the torque lb of the center bolt that could somehow put the steering wheel off center?

thanks

UPDATE - I took a second look at the steering wheel whether it was lined up correctly. Note - it took less than 5 minutes to disconnect the battery, pop off the airbag, remove the air bag clips and remove the center bolt. To my surprise I found my notches on the wheel mating nut were not perfectly line. All fixed now...So it is possible to install NOT lining up the notches and therefore have your steering wheel sit slightly off center.

I tried to take my steering off with the battery disconnected. However, when i tried to remove the 16mm bolt, the steering wheel kept turning because there was no steering lock and I couldnt put enough force to remove the bolt. Anyone have any ideas of what to do about it? Thank you!

Hello, I just modified my wheel wit lci paddle shifters. I had pre lci chrome shifters before. I followed the diagram and removed both resistors and shorted the top resistor but my paddle shifters are not working. Does anyone have any idea how to get the lci shifters to work on a pre lci car? I need to fix this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Excellent thread. The M-Sport wheel and the euro split armrest are 2 of my favorite mods.

I have 2009 with sport pkg, sports wheel with push/pull steering wheel, would above steering wheel and paddles would fit 2009 without trimming anything? is it direct fit?

I have a similar issue.

I have a 2008 BMW 328xi with the Sport package (has the SSG “up and back” chrome paddle shifters). I recently replaced the stock steering wheel with one from an M3 with the DCT paddles. All is well with the steering wheel, except that the DCT paddles do not work.

I thought it was PnP for pre-LCI cars, so I must have connected something wrong.

Anyone have any suggestions for a newb??

Does the radio need coding for the buttons to work?
I was thinking of getting my M Sport steering wheel without MF buttons fitted but read somewhere that I'd need to code the radio for them to work..

I just installed a used M3 wheel replacing the standard sport wheel on my 330i. The only issue I had was after bolting on the new wheel, the airbag connector to the steering column wouldn't fit. The M3 wheel connector had a tab on the right side, my old wheel connector didn't have a tab. Had to cut the tab off.
