Truck tire broke my Xenon headlight. What are my options for replacement?
A truck blew its tire in front of me and a large piece of rubber destroyed my passenger headlight. Car is an 07 335i.
I am pretty sure I have Xenon adaptive headlights (they move when the steering wheel moves). The headlight still functions but the plastic case is trashed (see pic) The bumper got chipped as did the hood, but I am more concerned about the replacement cost of the headlight (~$700-1k) What are my options here? I assume I need part# 63117161670 which I can't find for less than about $700 shipped new. Is this an easy replacement? Is this something that can be punted to insurance? I have a $1k deductible but the bumper and hood took light damage as well. I have never made a claim with insurance and have a completely clean record. You should be able to find a used one on ebay for ~$350 or so. Just swap all the bulbs and modules over from yours to the replacement.

1) Get your body shop to switch your hood to LCI
2) Get your body shop to switch your bumper to LCI (maybe find an M3 style bumper off ebay) 3) Getting a new headlight is recommended. However on ebay you can find used lights that are in great shape for $400. You can pocket the rest. I'd say only go for new headlights if you are doing an LCI xenon conversion but since you have adaptive it may be more complicated than you'd like.

I dont think the front lens is replaceable on the e90.. They where on the old e46.
Found this after a quick search, Im sure there are cheaper used units out there. http://r.ebay.com/DA5L5u Sure, you could do a full LCI swap, but that involves coding and altering the electrical harness unless Im mistaken. I wouldnt spend the time on doing it, but hey, its your car.

How difficult would the swap be? I have no concept of what these headlights look like when torn apart. |

OP, I've still got both my stock Xenon adaptive headlights sitting around since I swapped to the Euro versions, pm me and we can work something out. Changing the unit isn't hard, but it is kinda tedious.

You *might* need to adjust the leveling of the headlight, but it's a simple adjustment that you do with a phillips-head screwdriver after the headlights are installed. Otherwise you just transfer all the bulbs/modules from the old unit to the new one and re-install.

Not to mention, if he learned how to do it on that bad side he could replace the lens on the good side next. Then he would have a great-looking pair of headlights that would look better than what he has now. |

Also that video being linked in this thread is for an e92 headlight which only requires heating. The e90 headlight needs to be pried apart which takes over two hours each headlight. |

Thank you for the information. I tried to find who made those replacement lenses. The best I could come up with is Magneti Marelli but I can't find a decent parts catalog for them. I don't think Hella makes them despite the images in that ebay listing. |

which "E" code headlamp did you get? Xenon but none adaptive? Did it require coding when the lamps were installed? thank in advance |

"E" code as in chassis designation? I've got an E90. The original US spec headlight housings were xenon and adaptive, the Euro spec headlight housings I bought are also xenon and adaptive. Install was plug and play - I removed the stock housings, swapped the bulbs/ballasts/modules from my originals onto the Euro's, then mounted the Euro housings onto my car.
