Ex demo car

Is buying an ex demo car generally a good idea or bad idea?

I.e. do they tend to be really well specc'd or are they pretty much driven to within an inch of thier lives??

Car in question is a 330i sport coupe.

I don't think you can generalise and it probably depends on the dealership, I doubt it would be any worse than many 1 owner 1 year old cars - if you're not keeping it long why worry about it??

I wouldn't have an issue in most cases.

I would think a demo BMW would be specced and prepared to impress a potential customer and I don't think many people would hammer a car on a test drive either.

Mine is ex demo too, not very well specced (auto, USB and high beam assist) Not too sure how it was looked after, it was only 11 months old 15k miles when I got it, I think it faired pretty well!

I often buy ex demos although I don't keep cars long never had any problems with them and you normally get a nearly new Car (If it has been just a demonstrator it will be about 6 Months old ) at a good price and you have the full manufactures warranty if anything does go wrong.

Ex Demo's are fine. Also please be aware that any car extensively damaged at the port/docks/transit (accidents do happen etc) will be sold as a demo for obvious reasons.

My car was originally a BMW demo car. Now at. 67k miles it runs like a dream uses next to no oil (5000-6000 miles between top ups) had full history from the original dealer and hasn't missed a beat since I bought it.

It's also a good spec, Dakota lemon Leather, sport pack, idrive, tv, hifi, etc

The danger with ex demo is that it may have been lent to someone certifiable. Such as me......

Correct Kerr. My previous car was also an ex demo and suprisingly well specced.

Going up to buy the car tomorrow. Got asked an interesting question when speaking to my insurance - is the car 258bhp or 272bhp?

Is there an easy way to tell? Car is an E92 coupe 330i on an 07 plate, first registered August 2008??

Any help appreciated. Thanks

272 mate, when the E92 came out in Sept 06 all 330i versions of it were 272.

Direktionswagen

Many BMW 'demos' are cars that are given to staff for a few months. This has many positive benefits:

The staff member has a company car
There's always a demo unit available when customers want a test drive
There's a range of cars that match staffing hierarchy
There are low mileage cars to sell with bigger discounts to ambitious clients slightly lacking the wherewithall to buy new or unwilling to take the full depreciation hit

Most of the mileage comes from the staff member rather than actual test drivers
The cars are driven reasonably well as staff members are always in BMWs and used to the performance, so there's no 'novelty effect'
The cars are properly maintained

I've owned 3 BMW 'Direktionswagen' (Directors cars) and never had a problem

Thanks guys, I'd read that the 330i E92's were all 272bhp but saw on my HPI check it gave the CO2 emissions as around 205 which I believe is the emissions of the 258bhp engine?

Out of curiosity what is the mpg of a 258bhp compared to the 272bhp?

So is that correct then that the coupes were all 272bhp?

Vin is JP63223

Thanks QLD, how did you find that out?

So is the 268bhp one and the same as 272bhp engine? Do you have details of the quoted mpg?

Thanks very much for your swift responses!!
