Exclamation 335d E90 Catches Fire whilst driving

Driving home last night, come off the motorway and the car loses power. I decide to pull over and find out what the possible cause is, as I pull over I see smoke from under the hood - assuming it might be an overheating issue, to my surprise I open the hood to find a fire near the engine. Before I could even try to cut it out, it spread very fast, eventually burning the entire front end of the car by the time the fire service arrived. I have no idea what could have caused! I also just found this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17514172 but that has nothing to do with the 3 series. Anyone ever experience or heard of such a case?!

mind your steps carefully...

Im sure insurance will cover it, however should you or shouldnt you contact bmw to investigate is up to you. basically bmw may make things right... or they may sweep things under the carpet.

ppp

p.s. compound and alittle elbow grease and your back in shape !

was your car ever in an accident? Most car fires are a result of power steering fluid leaking onto the engine block.

Ok. The 5/6 series recall is on the aux water pump chip which has a fire risk. Post 2009 335d do not have a water pump.

Insurance sent out their recovery service to collect the car this morning. They said they will investigate and revert back within 5 working days! Ar!
