Thinking about getting these. Not for "bling" but mainly to try to reduce brake dust. I'm cleaning the brake dust off my wheels once a week and it's a real PITA!

If I buy them, I'll buy them in black to match my car but also in order to NOT to look like a complete poser. LOL!

Update 11/04/14:

SOLVED my brake dust problem earlier this year by installing Akebono pads all around, which eliminated my need for any brake caliper covers.

Saw a car with these a couple weeks ago and they looked cheap as hell. Paint or powder coat them man.

Yeah, I've read the various threads that flame on this idea but I've also seen pics of them and I don't think they look THAT bad, especially if you get the custom engraved version w/"BMW"on them. OBTW these are NOT cheap! The cost for custom engraved covers is $270 from MGP. So, these are NOT the tacky and phony "Brembo" plastic glue-on covers that you see on eBay.

Also painting or powdercoating the calipers is just too much trouble and costly to me and doesn't really deal with the problem that I'm "hoping" the covers will solve, which is excessive brake dust residue on the wheels. However, I've also read posts by owners of these caliper covers who say that they don't really help in reducing brake dust and that's the main reason I'm probably NOT going to buy them especially for that price.

On the other hand, $270 is certainly no more than others would pay for essentially useless body parts like mirror covers, spoilers, diffusers, etc. The MGP covers look well made and are very easy to install or remove. So, I "may" get them but, if I do, it'll just be a "bling" fling

BUT, if you just want to cover up the calipers (which I think look "unfinished"), I really don't think they look that bad as long as you get them in BLACK. The one's I've seen in red standout too much. See for yourself. Here are some pics of the black custom engraved covers mounted on a 2006 650i Coupe that I found online:

I think people are under the impression that you're buying caliper covers such as the fake Brembo's to give the appearance of having a BBK while running stock brakes. That i think is just cheap and riced out. Though the above pictures with a cover that fits onto the stock brakes and merely keeps them clean seems relatively fine to me, its not trying to be something that its not.

They should try to market it as being a heatsink for your calipers to help them stay cool with heavy use. And make it look as such. Then all the people that shit all over covers will have an excuse to want it.

If you cover your calipers and discs with anything, it will effect the heat management of the brakes, and reduce their ability to cool down, thus reducing their performance and possibly causing brake fade and fluid degradation.

A ridiculous idea.

$1500 for caliper covers WOW!!!
that is 1/2 bbk. I hope that's a typo

There is a. Toronto company doing the caliper covers for a fair price. They don't look terrible like eBay. I'll try to dig it up

They definitely didn't mean $14.99 for CNC Machined/Anodized parts - at least not on this planet

I do agree that for crazy price of $1499, I don't see them selling too many - if price was around $500/set I may bite at that price as they are very nice...

The pricing is pretty crazy. I just don't see enough machine time on those pieces to justify the price tag. It's not structural so there's not a lot of design or engineering time in them. And the shape isn't complex enough to demand anything really outrageous in term of machine time. Plus it's basic aluminum so the material costs aren't that high. They're not big enough to need custom blanks or anything like that.

Compared to the $270 ones you see on eBay, these don't have any additional features that make them 5 times the price. Maybe some custom logos? But those still don't add that much to the cost. It's 4 pieces of aluminum with a little bit of milling...

Look, I understand you are against being a poser. Go flame to the kid that wants LM reps or CSL reps. No need to be rude here. I'm simply trying to just change the color of my calipers. Nothing more, nothing less. There are plenty of others out there that are buying replicas and such.
If you are wanting to change the color of your calipers and you want a nice glossy color go with G2 paint kits. you can get them on amazon and it looks great and you paint your OEM parts. Have fun! Do what makes you happy. Even Nickelback has fans!

If you want a quick, cheap and easy improvement over the ugly stock calipers, good quality powdercoated aluminium covers are fine. My MGPs look good, stay clean and assist brake cooling.
