New rotors - vibration at hard braking
Just installed cross-drilled, slotted rotors (ECS) with Hawk ceramic pads. They work great and no dust. However, since installation I notice a vibration on hard braking. It manifests as more sound than shudder - in other words I can hear it kind of loud, but I don't feel much vibration in the steering wheel or anything. Sounds like running over grooved pavement, but a little more subtle.
Is this normal for CD/S rotors? thanks

Yes normal as far as I know. I have had slotted rotors for over a year and have a hum during hard braking also

I just had cool carbons installed with ECS 2 piece slotted and drilled rotors and yes, they're noisy. It almost sounds like a jet engine powering down when I'm braking hard.

But yeah, the noise and vibration is definitely something a little unnerving at first haha.

A little squeaky, and not as bitey as OEM, but dust is gone :^)

Yeah, seems to be a common complaint of Hawk pads. Akebono not so much.
I bedded and re-bedded, but still get a little noise.

Can you post a picture of the ECS Rotors? I am thinking of going with this setup but I have yet to see it actually installed on an E90.

I also just installed (328i) Cool Carbon brake pads and slotted/drilled rotors and I noticed that there is a lot of vibration when braking between 80-40mph. Is this really normal?
I just had these installed a few days ago. I was thinking I needed an alignment, but was not sure if it was a bad install in the rotors or something is going wrong. Will someone give me their 2 cents on this? It's really bothering me. They are a bit noisy when braking, though. Other than that, these are some good brakes! |

Is it really vibration, or just noise that sounds like vibration? Can you feel the vibration in the steering wheel?

It's really vibration. I can literally feel the car vibrating when braking.
Also, it was really bad at one point, but now it's somewhat better. But yeah, my wheel is shaking. Should I continue driving the car or take it in for an alignment? Thanks for the input! |

Shaking steering wheel when applying the brakes is from the rotors. They are either not true or you have pad material that transfered to the rotor. I have driven many cars with ceramic brakes with this issue.

is there anyway I can fix this? Or should I return the rotors and brakes. I do have warranty on them. Also, when is it necessary to bleed the brakes? |

Usually most issues with cool carbons are from improper bedding procedures. I bedded in mine right after I had them installed with the ECS 2 piece slotted/drilled rotors and whilst they are noisy when braking at high speeds (sounds like a jet engine powering down) I haven't noticed much vibration. There was one time I noticed some vibration on the track but it went away by the next turn.

Sounds like a warped rotor to me. I'd take it back in to have it checked.
