One thing I learnt from going there last year at the BMW show (great day by the way) was that the reaction time does not get included in your end time. So the reaction time is only important if you are interested in beating the car in the other lane to the finish, e.g. because it's your friend and you want to show them who the boss is. If you just want to know how fast your car will do the quarter mile, the reaction time is completely irrelevant. Try to get a good launch over a good reaction time!

Yup very true Seb.

You may have seen me in my X5 doing a few runs last year? It was the LeMans Blue one with the Red BBKs.

You coming along this time buddy?

Interesting results from last year. The fastest times for:
M3 12.4358/ 118.26mph
335i 12.9651/ 111mph
325i 13.1923/ 109.
I remember watching a Top Gear episode that put the reasonably priced car against an F1 on a straight run in an indoor arena in Birmingham. There was surprisingly little difference in the line time and max speed.(less than a ¼ mile from recollection, but a good run).

F1 car would not be able to hit full throttle indoors, we have data for the RB7 that shows 0-100 mph in 3 seconds with a full fuel load.

Whoa, that is fast. Has your car been forgiven or is it still trying your patience and playing up?

It is on parole [mainly because i dont know what to replace it with] If we ran the RB7 on low fuel it would be closer to 2 seconds.

It's quite possible Raj, I honestly can't remember as it was a while ago.
I was going to come again as it was a really great day, but I have been persuaded to go to Westside this year instead, I've never been so giving that a go!

So what time is everyone else getting there? Would be good to try and meet up with everyone at some point throughout the day.

I'll be there about 8:30ish to register and try and get a couple of early runs in. I definitely need the practice lol.

Was there today had a great time, did around 7 runs from 9.15am to 11.30am.

I'm disappointed with my times/speed, was hoping to get at least mid 12s and 115mph trap speed. Best run was 12.9s and 112.22mph. Was very tricky to launch clean, traction was an issue. Had the traction control button pressed once (DTC) and in DS mode launching in second, wasn't brave enough to take it completely off. The traction control cut power a few times which was very annoying. The rest of the time I couldn't go WOT until 3rd gear and was feathering the pedal. First 4 runs i let the gearbox change by itself, last 3 i changed gears manually at 4.5k. Kept tire pressues normal at 38/41psi. Not sure if i should have gotten out of 2nd earlier, felt like i was in second for ages.

I did race a subaru (sti i think) and won. I found i was even with slower cars up until 3rd gear and then just left them.

However the car did have a problem, power under 3k was lost after 7 runs! Will get it checked out on Monday, hopefully it's just a vacuum pipe or something. Not sure if that affected my times today, i don't think it did as power seemed normal until then...

Really surprised at how varied your times are Mo! Personally I disabled the traction control completely and mashed the gas from the start, that worked for me with no wheel spin. Perhaps the conditions were better...

I think sparkys right the traction was a problem on a few runs, DTC cut the power on some when i overdid it, which is why i have a big difference. From 3rd onwards i could go WOT.

But i'm hoping with more practice (was my first time) i'll get the knack of it, and newer tires Tempted to get some drag radials but i have to refrain lol

I think you are having the same experience as me. 1st and 2nd gears are so difficult not to spin up the tyres. By 3rd I can often go WOT. I haven't been able to get my 60ft times down and so my ETs have suffered.

I think it may be the super low 30 profile 19's. Lack of sidewall, lack of flex.

I've only managed mid 12's but with my trap speeds I want to break into the 11's.

Yeah you're right about the sidewall.

Can pick up some cheap oem 8j 17" rims only for about £120-150. Add some budget tires to the fronts and some drag radials to the back, i reckon you'll hit 11.5 and 122-124 mph as a guess. Really tempted by doing this and i know what you mean about it being addictive!

Yeah I wonder how that would compare to just banging on some Toyo R888 tyres.

Anyway plan to run my inappropriate tyres again Sunday.

I'm still thinking of getting drag radials, but are they road legal in the UK if they are DOT approved?

Anyone there today, how is it?
