BMW convenience "tricks"

Didnt know what else to call this thread but i've noticed a few nice convenient tricks, so i wondered what you BMW pros also knew. Things such as:
  • When you switch your car off and press the "Rest" button it turns on the air con for about 10 mins.
  • You can change the indicator flash from 1 to 3 flashes.
  • In a dark car park, press your close button on your key and the interior lights turn on.
  • Turn off your car and pull the lights lever will turn on the headlights for about 40 seconds (again in a car park you can see where your going)

Do you guys know any others?

There is, not surprisingly, a section in the manual about that.

Alternatively, just use your eyes.

I'll give you a clue. It is on the heater controls.

triple turn indicator thingy carlostforwords.
i.e. you just touch it once but you get three indicator signals.

Took a little while to get used to and sometimes I still find I do a little indicate the wrong way while switching it off (or trying to) !!!

Another one: press and hold the 'open' button on the remote key fob and all the windows open; press and hold the 'lock' button and all the windows then close.

Great when changing lanes and in roundabouts.

Also does the sunroof too.

And works with comfort access - just leave your finger resting on the door handle when locking the car, and all the openings (windows, sunroof) close.

No, you should NEVER indicate when undertaking. Keep the bastards guessing, I say. Same as if you've gone in the wrong lane on a roundabout, drive a taxi, a polish registered lorry. Mind you, if you drive a BMW you never indicate antway (according to my mates).

If you press unlock, then press it again the boot pops open, then press it again the luggage cover opens on it's own. Well, it does on the E91. You can do the same with the boot handle, press it once to open the boot, press it again to open the luggae cover.

If you leave the lights "on" when you lock the car, not only do the interior lights come on when you unlock it (or do the car park trick) the tailights, headlights and door handle mounted puddle lights come on. I nearly flattened my battery after I read that one in the manual, it's soooo cool.

I usually flash my lights before undertaking - then get ready for them to pull in front of me!

I find the middle finger is the best indicator

Also, whats the point of flashing your lights? You are clearly only 5mm off their bumper at this point.

Leave the wing mirror selector switch to the right and the passenger mirror dips when reverse is selected so you dont go kerbing those shiny alloys lol!

On coupe/verts pressing the unlock button twice will roll the window half way down to make access easier when parked in tight spaces.

There is a torch in the glovebox apparently, lol

Love the following:

3 flash indicators,
Drivers door only unlock when you press unlock once on the remote,
The ambient lighting in the overhead console and along the door cards,
The exterior door handle lights,
The ability to open/close the windows on the remote,
The auto lock function on the doors when the car starts moving.
