Thanks Acer - Below £40k - we had a massive haggle with all the dealers in a 60 mile radius. Eventually got about 16% discount!
Bungle - I asked the dealer to give me non RFT on delivery however he said BMW will only supply RFT, so the tyres are just what i've been given. Are the P-Zeros a good thing? Ive usually gone for PS2s on my last car. Banzi - There is no way on this planet that I would buy a car blind, even one supposedly as good as the 335d. I tried one out earlier this year and was weighing up my options (Audi A5 and BMW X6) and decided that this was the car to go for. It blew me away for power when I demoed although the steering didnt quite feel as instantaneous as my FWD A3 that I had previously. However after driving this car now for just over 100 miles I have lost all worries. Simply stunning....!! Davy I completely agree, its on my list to purchase. Just have a lot of work to sort at the moment so its not a high priority. DXB - My license wasnt in the best of shape even before i took delivery of the 335d (e.g. Heavy foot M6 Toll!) so its probably best for the license and the car that i drive her steadily for a while. Im heading to the autobahns later this month so ill test her 'capabilities' out there legally! haha Thank you everyone for your kind comments. They really make you feel happy that you've chosen the right car! To come soon (funds permitting) - LSD and Remap! Last edited by FPO; 10-12-2010 at 02:23 PM.. |

Quick question peeps, is it normal during the first few hundred miles that you get terrible fuel consumption. Im driving like a granny in and out of town, not reving at all and keeping to 'every' speedlimit and still struggling to get more than 25mpg atm. Any thoughts?
Oh and can you get the screen to play videos from your iphone. The sound comes on but havent found out if its possible to play the video as well. Any other sensible tips for a BMW newbie that I should adhere to? |

Agreed from previous experience, I may well have to start only shopping at Waitrose.
Its such a shame that people have no respect for other peoples property these days. Ive had some one in the past pull up next to me in a Tescos carpark then proceed to fling open their sh*tty fiat panda door and clatter my passenger side door with me clearly in the car. Hasten to add they got a piece of my mind and luckily there was no damage so i didnt need to take it any further. |

If its been ragged, its been ragged...I just thought i'd share my views on how I'd run in an engine after seeing the disasters that I have.

Run it in!
I asked the BMW rep that sold my car about running it in and he said not to bother. He said their demo cars were driven enthusiastically from 100 miles by every punter and they were fine. But he would say that wouldn’t he ‘cause he has no real idea, doesn’t care and sells them before they have done 10,000 or less.
I read the manual and its say run it in!!! Now who would you listen to, the manual or the salesman? I ran mine in, it didn’t take long. The anticipation was very enjoyable and the car goes very, very well. Run it in you have nothing to lose – thrash it from day 1, trash it day 2. You've a beautiful car and same colour as mine. White with BMW 269 wheels on 19” rims. Great cars, enjoy yours, it’s hard not too.

Use it's torque to your advantage, get up to speed quickly, then at a steady speed over 35mph mine sits at 50mpg all day long. Slow acceleration isn't that efficient, you spend longer moving 1.5tonnes. Maybe need to get use to the throttle position too, just a small amount of travel can make a difference. |

Really nice car there and what a great spec.
I didnt know they did P Zero's as run flats? Interesting that BMW will not supply it without run flats. Have to admit I really fancy a new LCI 335d :-) |

Half of my company is a distributor of semi-finished plastics, things like Perspex, Lexan and engineering plastics. Found K quite a useful place to find new suppliers and contacts. Last visit came away with a new Schelling FSK!

After 1500 miles the engine will loosen up and MPG should improve. The more care you take with the running in schedule now the better it will be in the long run.
However, it won't be fully run in for at least 10,000 miles. Enjoy your new purchase, it looks a wonderful car Regards vegnomeat |

The manual just covers their arse!
It's been run to high rpm on a bench and also on rollers once in the car. It's also been hammered by dock staff and BMW staff!

We always end up having a debate about running a car in or not.
To me it's not so much the engine, although I agree with the others, don't rev it hard when cold and allow it to warm up and gradually build up your use of the revs. Alternating the rev range also. The bits that do need bedding in are the tyres and brakes - honest! The handbook should give the info. Don't over nanny the brakes but try not to avoid actually using them hardish otherwise you may glaze the pads. I never got more than 34 mpg average out of my 335d, even post re-map but then I couldn't be arsed with trying to squeeze the most out of it mpg wise. It's a diesel, so long motorway runs will provide the best mpg. It should get better as things loosen up a bit but short runs or mostly urban driving will affect it for obvious reasons. Nice car btw. |
