Cost of Alarm Activation in Vancouver?
Just pick up a white 07 328i with stick shift. Did not take the alarm option as the dealer wanted $800 for it! Planning to DIY but wonder how much does it cost to have it activated? Anyone have it activated in local BMW dealer? And how much?
Thanks Kobe |

Most dealers want at least 1 hr of labour for activation.
Unlike in the US, I have not heard of anyone getting it activated for the cost of 1/2 hr of labour. P.S. You have to go to the dealer to get it activated. Only their computers will activate the alarm fully.

Why don't you go for a shopping trip and get it activated south of the boarder? Kill two birds with one stone?

Your SA needs to "activate it" in the software so that the car knows it is there. Probably takes 3 minutes to do.

Ask Nixon Automotive in Burnaby.
http://www.nixonautomotive.com/ They can activate alarms...and will likely do it for less than what the dealers charge. Tell them you were referred by E90post.com. Talk to Ryan. |

I relied on spacedogg's endorsement of Nixon Automotive.
Unfortunately, their computer is NOT able to active the alarm fully. Only my interior motion sensor worked afterwards. My trunk, hood and door sensors and panic mode did not work. Despite voicing my concerns, they could not do anything to activate the alarm fully. [i.e. their computer is NOT the same your dealer uses]. So beware of these endorsements of Nixon. They may be a good shop, but as it stands, alarm activation must be done at a REAL dealer. [spacedogg: please save our members some grief and refrain from blindly endorsing Nixon at every opportunity.]

Also just so that you know...I have no affiliation with Nixon other than I have taken my car there. I get no kickbacks or special discounts for referring people to them. They just have done work on my car and I am satisfied with what they have done. |
